Doorways Case WorkerWhy this role matters:
The Salvation Army (Salvos) Doorways model of care provides holistic financial support to individuals and families seeking short-term financial assistance and ongoing financial management support services. The Doorways Team provide person-centred trauma-informed care, facilitate short-term financial assistance, and walk side-by-side with participants as they build the skills and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty.
About the role:
Reporting to the Doorways Regional Manager (DRM), the Doorways Case Worker is responsible for providing case work support to community members who request material assistance and to those who would benefit from more specialized assistance.
You will provide support, guidance and encouragement within a case work setting, to community members who are wanting to make positive changes in their life. You will have the ability to explore with community members the deeper issues that have been contributing to their presenting situation, with a view to building longer term capacity and resilience.
How you will make an impact:
- Work collaboratively with Corps Officers, Volunteers, and other co-located Mission Leaders to deliver an integrated approach to delivering Doorways at the local site
• Build and maintain relationships within TSA and with local community stakeholders to identify local resources, community needs, and opportunities for collaboration
• Assessment of community members’ specific needs, strengths and identification of interrelated issues and needs
• Develop high quality case plans with community members to identify achievable goals using a strength-based approach.
• Use prevention and early intervention strategy and response to deliver support and services to people experiencing disadvantage and financial hardship
• Provide effective response to people experiencing longer term disadvantage and generational poverty.
• Support community members to build and increase capacity and develop independent living skills towards self determination
What will you bring:
- An alignment to, and willingness to promote and support, the Mission, Vision and Values of The Salvation Army.
- A minimum qualification of Diploma in relevant discipline (e.g. Community Services Work) is required or significant relevant experience would be considered.
- Demonstrable experience in working with disadvantaged Community Members to assist them to affect positive change in their lives.
- The ability to motivate and guide others to help them achieve their goals
- Demonstrate the ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with substance abuse and mental health issues.
- Hold a valid Blue Card (QLD)
- Valid driver license, a comprehensively insured vehicle and willingness to use for work related purposes (mileage paid for work related travel).
