JOB SUMMARY
The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor supervises, organizes, and coordinates the clinical and technical aspects of services rendered to ensure the delivery of quality respiratory treatments. Specific duties may include coaching staff members about appropriate procedures and policies, performing therapeutic procedures, blood gas analysis, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment. The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the administration of oxygen, therapeutic gas and respiratory medications to patients in accordance with physician orders. Develops, implements and controls the provision of therapeutic patient care services. Additionally, the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor has thorough knowledge of the functional area under supervision. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed according to the facility and department.

Experience And Educationrequired
- EducationAssociate's Degree A.A.S. Graduate of accredited program in respiratory care
- Experience3 years recent critical care experience as an RRT
- Licenses and Certifications(RCP) RESP CARE PRACTITIONER by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) Upon Hire and (RRT) REG RESPIRATORY THER by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Upon Hire and (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and (NRP) NEONATAL RESUSCITATION course accredited by American Academy Pediatrics (AAP) within 90 Days
Preferred
- EducationBachelor's Degree in Business, Sales, Marketing or related fieldMaster's Degree advanced degree such as MBA
- Experience1 year of recent Neonatal Intensive Care experience and 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience
Job Duties
- Adheres and facilitates adherence by other personnel to all policies and procedures, AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines, Code of Ethics and nationally recognized standards of practice. Support clinical, operational and facility services, coordinating operations and personnel activities to meet Respiratory Therapy Services, Hospital and Health System objectives.
- Creates staffing assignments as established with Respiratory Therapy Services guidelines in order to meet productivity targets as appropriate. Revise assignments during the shift and makes changes as necessary to meet the specific needs of the patients on a shift by shift basis. Assures financial stewardship.
- Coordinates staffing with other areas within the UTSW Medical Center and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Makes ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity, to assure safe delivery of care.
- Organizes Respiratory Therapy Services operations and systems delivering services in a manner that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements, demonstrating sound judgment while serving as the administrative and operational resource.
- Role models pro-active and self-sufficiency in effective problem solving by collaborating with staff to ensure effective resolution of identified issues during the shift. Intervenes and problem solves for inter-/intra-departmental issues, facilitating interdepartmental communication, negotiation and decision-making. Utilizes chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues as needed. Advocates for patients and staff to provide for safe delivery of care and/or a safe environment of care.
- Coordinates personal self-scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage for department needs. Demonstrates scheduling flexibility and willingly provides coverage during shifts when staffing crisis/shortage occurs. Maintains direct care clinical competency.
- Actively participates in routine and special staff meetings, special projects and the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Communicates data and solicits input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement including patient safety and infection control.
- Assists with responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care. Solicits staff input regarding equipment and supply needs for the unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
