The NYC Mayor's Office administers all city services, public property, and most public agencies, and enforces all city, state, and federal laws within New York City. The Team You’ll Work With:
The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement (ENG), reporting to the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, is a new office dedicated to building the capacity and transforming the culture of NYC government to engage and mobilize New Yorkers effectively, inclusively, proactively, and consistently. ENG engages New Yorkers with a focus on those most impacted by injustice and inequity, in order to build civic power, increase transparency, ensure accountability, enhance public confidence, design, and deliver more effective policies and programs. ENG also ensures that the City coordinates community engagement efforts across agencies and mayoral offices, systematically learns from communities, builds the capacity of all city agency outreach and engagement teams, and advances community-driven solutions in close coordination with the Mayor’s Office’s primary engagement offices: the Community Affairs Unit (CAU), the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), the Public Engagement Unit (PEU), and NYC Service.

The Problems You’ll Solved:
The role of the NYC Youth Ambassador is to allow a young person, aged 14-24, the opportunity to develop, recommend, and enhance policy proposals, initiatives, and services that directly impact, support and serve children and young people across NYC.
The NYC Youth Ambassador’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as a key advisor to senior leadership, including the Chief Engagement Officer and other critical members of senior leadership;
- Working with the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement to develop strategies for increasing youth engagement across the city;
- Providing recommendations for the development of community and youth-based programs and services that support youth, and their families;
- Partnering with City agencies and Mayor’s Office units (such as NYC Service and the Department of Youth & Community Development) to recommend youth-oriented elements to City programming and creating relevant content and messaging geared to youth;
- Creating strategies and frameworks to create and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in the youth engagement space, including youth boards and advisory groups;
- Gathering feedback from NYC youth on citywide initiatives; and
- Advising the NYC Communications team to ensure that external-facing messaging is inclusive and accessible to NYC youth.
