Course: World Building

This world building course explores the art and science of creating immersive game worlds. Students learn about narrative development, environmental design, level layout, and interactive storytelling, and they establish skills in conceptualizing and visualizing game worlds. Students develop a broad understanding of the technical aspects and hardware constraints of world building and conceptualize captivating and cohesive game worlds that enhance the overall gameplay experience. This is a writing-intensive course. Technology requirement: Students are responsible for providing their own laptop that is capable of running the Adobe Creative Cloud.
 

What You Will Do:

  • Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions while incorporating innovative teaching strategies.
  • Engage students in cutting-edge technologies and industry trends.
  • Assess student performance and mentor classroom success to prepare them for their chosen career path.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in game art, Game or Graphic Design, Film, Illustration, or other creative field, scriptwriting or a business degree with industry experience. OR
    • bachelor’s degree in game development or other related STEAM field.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in the game design industry, broad skills in software used in the game industries including the Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Required: Portfolio or case studies of game production projects worked on by the candidate, showing world concepts and levels within games.
  • Knowledge of the game theory, mechanics, player motivation and the game marketplace; the game production pipeline, game creative direction, ability to manage a creative team.
