About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Category Buyer to join our Procurement team, responsible for the Lubricants, Paints, and Chemicals category. This role is well-suited to an individual with strong interpersonal skills who can develop and influence relationships across internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Category Buyer will play a key role in driving cost-effective solutions while ensuring timely supply within an international, matrix organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Have end-to-end responsibility for the entire demand-to-delivery process for an allocated set of Maersk Line vessels, ensuring the 4R Principle – Right Price, Right Place, Right Time, and Right Quantity.
- Run the RFQ process with non-contracted suppliers to secure optimal deliveries.
- Follow the Procure-to-Pay (PTP) process for timely vendor payments, resolving discrepancies on invoices as needed.
- Drive stakeholder management with technical organizations, addressing concerns in a timely manner under the Procurement Framework, and propose solutions for complex situations. Actively drive Supply Chain Excellence and efficiencies with stakeholders.
- Be well-versed in IT platforms and system operations, leveraging tools to optimize processes, ensure compliance, and maximize insights.
- Take responsibility for driving and monitoring operational performance of the team, and assist the Team Lead with operational reporting tasks.
- Propose sourcing alternatives in complex situations to resolve vessel urgencies at the lowest cost and without excessive risk.
- Collaborate with Master Data teams to improve back-end data quality and propose enhancements.
- Challenge the status quo by identifying and developing new suppliers, based on delivery performance, to expand global coverage.
- Provide feedback on market dynamics (supply/demand) and work with Category Managers to improve pricing and supplier offers.
- Lead and drive assigned initiatives within the team related to Category Strategies.
- Take ownership of driving and implementing automation initiatives as part of the digital agenda.
- Represent the team in key and strategic forums, providing constructive feedback and driving collaboration.
- Actively contribute to Supplier Performance Management and price negotiations. Support or manage smaller contract agreements.
- Use data and analytics to measure performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Interpret relevant commercial terms in Frame Agreements to validate supplier offers.
- Support Maersk’s carbon-neutral initiatives, ensuring sustainability in procurement and minimizing emissions across supply chains.
- 2–4 years of experience in procurement.
- Proven track record in planning and supply chain management within an international matrix organization.
- Experience in the marine industry will be considered an advantage.
- Educational background in Engineering and/or a Master’s in Supply Chain or Operations Management.
- Strong commercial mindset with focus on cost-effective solutions.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize under ambitious timelines.
