This is a full-time position with 2nd shift hours; weekend availability is required. This position is eligible for discounted downtown parking, free employee meals, hotel and restaurant discounts and more. 

 

SUMMARY

Coordinate staff working in the bar. Assists management in maintaining inventories and par levels, ordering bar supplies, developing new recipes, solving customer complaints, managing cash drawers, and organizing special occasions such as parties and private dining events. Must have the ability to effectively manage the different personalities of both staff and guests while ensuring a high level of service. Follow the expectations of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, including, following AHC guest service standards. Create a teamwork environment in the restaurant and produce quality service to each guest. Lead the bartending team.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Possesses full beverage and cocktail knowledge including garnishment, beer, spirits, and wine.
- Able to memorize menu items, their builds, and recipe specifications.
- Studies and utilizes all standard cocktailing and bar techniques, as well as researches new cocktailing trends and techniques.
- Actively works bar shifts including areas such as service well, bar rail, table service, and food running.
- Is aware of events in the local area. Is able to make recommendations for our guests.
- Generates additional revenue by offering ideas to management and suggestively selling to guests.
- Displays a sense of urgency and the ability to resolve any guest concerns or department issues independently.
- Strives to exceed guest satisfaction and provides the best possible service by utilizing AHC guest service standards.
- Utilizes time well and is productive throughout the entire shift while meeting department standards.
- Must be TIPS certified and properly card guests who order alcoholic beverages.
- Follow and maintains all Health Department Specifications.
- Knows the hotel's recycling policy and where to recycle items for the department.
- Follows the AHC safety standards of The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
- Oversees all bar service area(s) including main bar, patio bar, and private dining mobile bar.
- Oversees all bar storage area(s) including liquor cage, walk in cooler, and bar cart.
- Ensures the proper flow of service through the bar area(s) by making sure they are well stocked and set up for success.
- Maintains restaurant cleanliness and overall deep cleaning of the bar area(s).
- Maintains daily set up and/or breakdown of all bar areas, including all bar food, beer, spirits, and wine.
- Completes daily cleaning duties and side work tasks.
- Keeps work area(s) neat and clean. Can be found picking up trash in public and back of the house areas.
- Participates in the nightly ordering of bar food, beer, spirits, and wine.
- Oversees and executes the quarterly inventories with the bar staff and management team.
- Rotates product first in, first out and records/disposes of expired product properly.
- Monitors bar food and beverage waste while reporting to management.
- Looks for ways to save money by reducing waste and controlling expenses.
- Effectively communicates to all restaurant staff members and those in leadership roles within the department and the hotel.
- Shares information with all restaurant staff regarding any monthy drink specials or stock issues during pre-shift meetings.
- Works with department management team on beer, wine, and cocktail menu ideation, creation, and engineering.

- Leads and trains the staff on new cocktails and other beverages including beer and wine.
- Communicates any needs or areas of concern regarding bar area(s) with management team.
- Attends department manager meetings.
- Performs manager closing duties when needed.

- Takes pride in their appearance, reports to work in complete uniform, wears proper shoes and socks, and is neatly groomed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Must have previous bartending experience in a fine dining or comparable restaurant required.
- Experience as a mixologist is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Related experience and/or training required.
- TIPs certification preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the associate:
