Over the last 50 years, UNDP in Bhutan has been supporting the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) to attain its national priorities.    UNDP and GEF have been supporting Mainstreaming Biodiversity into the Tourism Sector in Bhutan Project since 2021 with the Department of Tourism. This project seeks to mainstream biodiversity conservation into tourism development in Bhutan as a long-term strategy for mitigation of threats to biodiversity and to generate sustainable conservation financing and livelihoods. The project aims to establish Bhutan as a model ecotourism destination, to generate livelihood opportunities, sustainable financing for landscapes within and outside protected areas, facilitate human-wildlife coexistence, and mitigate the negative impacts of increasing tourism on Bhutan’s socio-cultural heritage and globally significant biodiversity. The project is implemented in two protected areas (PAs) of Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) and Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS) in eastern Bhutan as well as in the five Dzongkhags (districts) of Lhuentse, Mongar, Trashigang, Trashi Yangtse and Zhemgang. These locations represent the eastern and south-central parts of Bhutan. The project is in its final year of implementation and preparing for the Terminal Evaluation planned in 2026.    Towards this, UNDP Bhutan is seeking two interns for a period of three months to be to be placed at the Project Management Unit at the Department of Tourism from October to December 2025.   Duties and Responsibilities   The primary objective of the internship is to provide support to the PMU in documentation works, monitoring and reporting, while enhancing the intern’s professional skills and knowledge in project management.   Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the intern will:

• Assist in day-to-day coordination and implementation of project activities.
• Support in preparation of project documents, progress reports, meeting minutes, and presentations.
• Assist in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of project outputs and maintaining project data.
• Provide logistical and administrative support during workshops, training, and official meetings.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.

Required Skills and Experience   Education:

Candidates must at the time of application meet ONE of the following requirements: 

1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
3. Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
    

Candidates should also have 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Dzongkha.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
