About This Opportunity

The Senior Principal Engineer, Library Solutions provides a high level of analysis, architecture design, and development for key information technology systems, ensuring the Library's strategic priorities are met. This role is responsible for seeing projects through from conception to completion, guiding procurements, and resolving complex technical issues.

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

Systems Analysis and Development

  • Provide a high level of analysis, design, and implementation for information technology systems and their infrastructure, from initial architecture design to ongoing operational support.

Project Management and Leadership

  • Lead IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed-upon quality standards. This includes scheduling, resourcing, and providing technical consultation to clients and colleagues.

Strategic Support and Collaboration

  • Assist the Senior Manager with budget preparation, business process improvements, and strategic planning. You will also engage with and support external consultancies and other university colleagues to ensure developments meet business needs.

Operational Management and Security

  • Lead the ongoing development and operational support for the Library's Managed Operating Environment. You will also investigate new technologies and promote sound cybersecurity practices in compliance with university policy and standards.

About You

  • Degree/qualifications in a relevant field and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. This includes substantial experience in systems administration, as well as the implementation and support of cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information technologies, systems design, and development, sufficient to provide technical guidance and leadership. You should have comprehensive knowledge of managing and designing Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux Server Environments.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and budgets to deliver quality IT services. You will need strong analytical skills to assess problems and propose appropriate solutions, with the ability to manage conflicting demands and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the emotional intelligence to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. This includes a mindset of inclusivity, contributing to an engaged, productive, and supportive team and client culture.
