This position provides specialized consultative services to plan sponsors in order to design and effectively implement retirement plans in accordance with ERISA requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, working with plan sponsors to determine plan document requirements, implementation of administrative service agreement (ASA), development of educational plans for participants and assisting plan sponsors with compliance requirements.

Working independently, this position oversees and directs plan activity for the administration of assigned retirement plans and typically handles low to moderately complex accounts. This position works to identify and resolve moderately complex problems or inquiries and may partner with their team and/or SVP of Retirement Department on more complex issues. This position develops and manages strategic plan around client goals and objectives.

This position proactively identifies and capitalizes on business development opportunities by expanding customer account relationships through the sale and/or referral of additional products and services to increase fee-based income while ensuring fiduciary responsibilities remain uncompromised. This position will cross-sell other bank products and provide referrals to other areas of the bank as appropriate. This position understands business economics/pricing and impact on client and may provide guidance to less experienced personnel. This position serves on and participates in action groups and committees as assigned.

Primary Duties:

  • Responsibilities Related to Plan Sponsor Service:
  • Submit plan documents/ASA/other governing document changes to RSC completion.
  • Initiate and manage fund swap communications and process.
  • Implement plan sponsor education process in accordance with established curriculum.
  • In conjunction with RSC, prepare and/or distribute plan sponsor and/or participant communications that are per plan one-offs rather than mass communications.
  • Disburse applicable notices and disclosures to plan sponsors that are one-offs by plan.
  • Create and deliver report cards.
  • Identify key decision makers’ birthdates, anniversaries and entertaining opportunities
  • Responsibilities Related to Participant Service:
  • Perform participant meetings in accordance with plan sponsor education design including but not limited to:
  • Responsibilities Related to Plan Technical Requirements:
  • Ensure all final compliance reports and IRS forms are archived to Nautilus.
  • Review of QDROs led by RSC and other escalated technical matters as they arise in plan administration with SVP.
  • Work with internal Bell partners to identify retirement plan sales opportunities in the Minneapolis market.
  • Coordinate direct retirement plan sales opportunities in the Minneapolis market.
  • Know by name and face as many customers and employees as possible, calling them by name as often as possible.

  • Know, understand, and live the company values and bottom line.
  • Conduct activities consistent with established Bell Bank policies, procedures and systems, the Bell Bank Employee Conduct policies, the Bank Secrecy Act and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • All employees are responsible for information security, including compliance with policies and standards which protect sensitive information.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Primary responsibility for all communications with plan sponsor.
  • Provide consultative advice including but not limited to:
  • Review and interpret year-end testing.
  • Review plan investment options ensuring compliance with investment policy.
  • Review and suggest ASA changes as needed.
  • Provide advice on plan design and administration.
  • Assist plan sponsors with improving enrollment and education of participants.
  • Participant Meetings
  • Participant education:
  • Assist with directing participant inquiries to proper channels if unable to resolve/assist..
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations
  • Conduct meetings (group, Webex, and one-on-one):
  • Plan features,
  • Investment options,
  • Investment education,
  • Miscellaneous follow-up.
  • Payroll stuffers,
  • Participant walk-in meetings,
  • Take calls not appropriate for the Call Center or plan sponsor.
  • Review received year-end compliance questionnaires
  • Review completed compliance testing package with RSC as available, distribute to plan sponsor and consult with Plan Sponsor of corrective actions and available plan design options to address concerns noted.
  • Review and coordinate with plan sponsor, RSC and Newport Group and/or external auditor, as applicable, on:
  • Completed 5500 including electronic signature and notification of successful filing.
  • Signature-ready Form 8955-SSA.
  • 5330 for late contributions, if applicable.

Job Skills Required:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relationship management, related sales, marketing or portfolio management experience.
  • Strong retirement industry knowledge.
  • Proven success in relationship building.
  • Extensive ERISA knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Currently hold one of the following designations, with a second designation achieved two years of attaining this position:
  • Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA),
  • Certified Retirement Services Professional (CRSP), or
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
  • Ability to navigate DST Trac system in order to advise plan participants and plan sponsors on functionality and resolve inquiries as needed.
