Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse Educator.

Participates in quality improvement and evaluation processes related to clinical nurse education.  Provides direct services to patients, (in-patient and out-patient), staff, and community. Acts as a resource agent for the Rivers Health. Develops programs and assists with patient, staff, and community education.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists staff to understand their duties and responsibilities and to improve performance by planning, preparing, and presenting instructions.
  • Evaluates and reports trainee achievement/deficiencies to respective department leader or authorized designee.
  • Plans for periodic evaluation of the overall orientation programs.
  • Revises orientation program as required and/or indicated from evaluation.
  • Coordinates skill training programs for staff.
  • Promotes patient teaching in all assigned areas through encouraging and advising staff of patient education needs.
  • Coordinates programs to provide continuing education.
  • Secures visual aids and develops lists of references related to programs of continuing education.
  • Encourages nursing personnel to identify their learning needs and to meet responsibilities of their role.
  • Encourages nursing personnel to participate actively in planning, presenting, and attending continuing education programs.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency in the process of role modeling as a preceptor with new employees or those identified with learning needs.
  • Coordinates ongoing provider courses. (I.e. ACLS, PALS, BCLS etc.).
  • Maintains instructor certification as assigned (BCLS, ACLS, PALS).
  • Organizes and actively participates in presenting courses/classes annually or as required and specific functions may change from time to time. Participates in, evaluates, and utilizes research activities relative to nursing care to enhance educational activities and quality of patient care.
  • Keeps abreast with the newest concepts in nursing and medical practice to offer meaningful assistance to nursing personnel.
  • Assists the department leader or other Directors as necessary.
  • Participates in evaluation and recommendation of equipment utilized in nursing care delivery.
  • Assists departmental leaders, or authorized designees, in the evaluation of individual’s clinical skills, and participates in counseling of those employees as requested.
  • Demonstrates organization in planning and presenting educational activities.
  • Performs duties with minimum waste of time and resources.
  • Seeks assistance as necessary in solving clinical and management problems.
  • Plans attainable goals.
  • Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with colleagues and personnel.
  • Delegates responsibilities within scope of personnel abilities.
  • Adaptable and able to perform a variety of assignments within scope of job duties.
  • Assume responsibility for own behavior.
  • Abides by hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participates in Hospital/Departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Attends assigned committees regularly.
  • Attending departmental staff meetings (at least six (6)/year).
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of Competency testing.
  • Collaborates with Department Managers to develop annual online (Health.edu) competencies for staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Reports on the job as scheduled.
  • Follows all standard safety precautions.
  • Follows the standards of conduct and policies and procedures of Rivers Health and applicable laws and regulations and reports violations through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Annually completes required competency assessments.
  • Utilize appropriate measures to promote and maintain patient safety.
  • Makes decisions which include using the age of the patients treated when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of operation to include but not limited to the required unit specific equipment/procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of on-going unit specific performance improvement activities.
  • Conducts bi-weekly Clinical Orientation.
  • Serves (co-chairs) on various hospital committees, as applicable and assigned by direct supervisor.
  • Maintains clinical side of current EMR.
  • Updates and delivers passwords for current EMR.
  • Assists in Glucose Trainer sessions.
  • Assists with Health.edu
  • Maintains Health.edu
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications:

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Minimum of five (5) years as staff nurse.

Education And Formal Trainining:

Graduate of an approved school of nursing, B.S.N. preferred.  Maintains current license to practice nursing in the State of West Virginia.
