Our Safety Standards and Assurance team is seeking a Manager, Safety Risk Management to provide enterprise-wide risk management and risk assessment expertise to address safety risks associated with operational programs, engineering project deviations and other risks identified during incident investigations. Serve as the primary point of contact and innovator in safety risk management strategies which will ensure that risks are identified, assessed, documented and mitigated in order to enhance operational safety at Metrolinx.

 What will I be doing?

  • Develops and implements the safety risk management strategy through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, which will include processes, standards, systems, and procedures for conducting risk assessments.
  • Provides safety risk management guidance, training, and advice to internal and external stakeholders in order to build risk awareness and to ensure continued due diligence within Metrolinx.
  • Manages the organization and facilitation of workshops with Metrolinx business units to collect data associated with potential safety risks within operational programs and engineering project deviations.
  • Manages (on an ongoing basis) the quantitative and qualitative analysis of safety risks within operational programs.
  • Manages the collection and review of safety data to categorize, estimate, and prioritize the risks which may affect an operational program, including safety risks identified during an incident investigation.
  • Recommends and manages strategies for risk avoidance, risk mitigation and/or contingency plans relating to an operational program, including safety risks identified during an incident investigation.
  • Manages the Safety Risk Register to document risks within the business units, including the safety risks identified during incident investigations and the corrective action plans required to eliminate or mitigate the risks.
  • Establishes, manages and maintains a Safety Risk Scorecard for the business units, as appropriate.
  • Manages the communication of safety risk to internal and external stakeholders in order to maximize safety awareness and improve safety.
  • Provides updates on safety risks to senior management within Safety Division and the other business units.
  • Monitors progress on risk management initiatives within Safety Division to ensure that planning objectives are delivered on time and within budget, and that anticipated business results are achieved.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Analytics or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrates progressive experience in safety risk management, safety assessments and/or safety investigations.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices to lead and direct cross functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects (i.e. development, project progress, related staff and project resources).
  • Knowledge of safety risk management, including quantification of risks, prioritization of risk, and development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of the principles and concepts of probability, statistics and data analytics with respect to safety data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of budget development and financial management processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Facilitation skills to conduct meetings and workshops to inform and/or influence senior management and large project teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate complex risk management information to varied audiences including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills to prepare high-level briefing notes and detailed technical reports relating to safety risks.
