The Cypress of Hilton Head’s Plant Department is recruiting for a hospitality focused Painter to join our team!

Essential Functions:

  1. Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors and cabinets.
  2. Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel and other finishes.
  3. Scrape, sandpapers, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  4. Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
  5. Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection. Move furniture and/or equipment as necessary to ensure protection.
  6. Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs.
  7. Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
  8. Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
  9. Select and buy paint from vendors, negotiate pricing.
  10. Purchase quality equipment and brushes when necessary.
  11. Tape off areas as needed.
  12. Apply touchups or second coats in accordance with product instructions.
  13. Remove paint splatters when finished.
  14. Clean up all equipment, including brushes and spray guns.
  15. Operate and maintain spray guns.
  16. Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  17. Examine and maintain painted exterior and interior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures.
  18. Follow established protection procedures in accordance with product warnings and directions.
  19. Clean up the job site after work is complete and return equipment and tools.
  20. Maintain a clean, safe work area.
  21. Complete special projects as assigned.
  22. Operate hand and power tools in accordance with the manufacture directions. 
  23. Understand the responsibility to report suspected violations of The Cypress of Hilton Head Code of Conduct to appropriate persons, or to The Cypress of Hilton Head Compliance Hotline, or by completing a Written Report of Suspected Compliance Violation, or by contacting the Corporate Compliance Officer directly.
  24. Embrace The Cypress Hospitality Promises daily.
  25. Take appropriate precautions to avoid job related injuries and comply with injury reporting guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Report any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
  2. Participate in all drills and in-service education as assigned.
  3. Respond to facility emergencies as needed.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
  • Freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, and members.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. 
  • Ability to work well independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of different types of available paints, sealers and primers and their uses.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate painting equipment such as power washers, scrapers, etc.
  • Ability to use wire brushes, sanders, and rollers in an efficient manner.
  • In depth knowledge of different types of paints and tools for interior and exterior projects.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • One-year prior work experience is strongly preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 

  • Valid Driver License combined with an acceptable driving record.
