Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President & Director of Athletics, the Deputy Athletic Director for Finance and Operations is responsible for providing high-level leadership in various capacities and in the execution of the department’s stated goals. This role will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Athletic Department’s financial resources, capital projects, and event operations. 

Responsibilities

  • Advises the Athletic Director using analytical methods (best practices) on all fiduciary matters in the department
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the university CFO and COO related to all athletic department financial matters
  • Manages all unit budgets in concert with each unit manager or Head Coach – has authority to approve and disapprove any and all requests for spending and revenue generation
  • Develops and oversees annual budgets for each unit
  • Develops policy, procedures, and systems to manage workflow (e.g. billing, receiving, etc.) processes for the office and seeks out financial efficiencies 
  • Advises on financial implications for all capital projects
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates short- and long-range goals and objectives to further establish sustainability of the department
  • Functions as part of the Executive Team reporting to the Athletic Director and provides strategic vision and leadership for the department; responsible for contributing to the development and execution of department’s strategic plan
  • Provides leadership and supervision for staff members
  • Provides sport supervision responsibilities and leadership to team(s)
  • Manages all internal and external financial audits/reviews for the department
  • Manages and completes the EADA and NCAA Financial Report for the institution
  • Accurate and timely processing of financial transactions including travel, insurance, and other payment of vendors. 
  • Monitors, reports, and informs on financial matters and budgets to the department, university leadership, and external agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in an Athletic Business Office
  • Demonstrated record of successful planning, budgeting, analyzing and managing financial resources
  • Supervisory experience and experience leading teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience within a Division I Athletic Department
