Job Overview:

This position is responsible for planning, directly participating in and documenting all aspects of the nutritional care of patients in area of specialty. 

Performs comprehensive nutritional assessment and documents nutrition diagnosis based on guidelines outlined by the nutrition care process. Uses experience, protocols and guidelines to prioritize diagnosis. Seeks collaborative information from specialty professionals. Provides nutrition counseling that outlines nutrition goals with patient and families based on existing nutritional standards of care and alters care plan based on patient response. Appropriately utilizes roles of internal and external team members to develop, tailor and coordinate nutritional care plan. Utilizes comprehensive knowledge and experience to evaluate the effectiveness of the nutrition care plan and follows through in care plan delivery. 
Is recognized as an expert and participates in educational activities for the health care team within the hospital community. Incorporates current research in practice and/or shares current research with peers. Assumes a responsibility role on at least one committee. Uses expertise to provide essential feedback helping to positively impact decisions that affect the department, hospital and community. Is self-directed and able to prioritize daily schedule to meet professional demands and demonstrates flexibility by being able to adjust schedule to meet daily needs and provide cross coverage. Assist others to develop the ability to pursue work with little supervision and is proficient in time management and productivity. Is a role model for being open to change and has the ability to alter ones task with minimal loss of efficacy.
Acts as a resource to the healthcare team. Teaches dietetic interns, or other students. Participates in Nutrition Dept. functions related to food service, and quality assurance activities. Provides education to other healthcare professionals, as well as outside groups, as appropriate.

Job Requirements:

Master's Degree in Dietetics
Dietitian, CDR Registration & Ohio Licensure
5 years experience Clinical Dietetics

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Competency/Continued Education: Utilizes all components of Nutrition Care Process in care planning. Writes  appropriate PES statements, and documents discharge plan consistently. Evaluate and monitor the effects of nutrition plans and practices and make changes as needed. Keeps abreast of new nutrition research through continuing education opportunities, attending at least one educational session in focus area of practice a year, and keeps CDR education record updated.

Patient Education: Assesses patient's learning needs including cultural and religious beliefs, emotional and age specific barriers, desire and motivation to learn, and diet history when completing patient educations.  Individualizes patients' intervention goals and documentation is complete per department standards.

Projects: Complete a small project/bright idea such as updating (non-patient education) clinical resource, published nutrition article, education session on unit or organized a journal club reviewing a research article(s) with a group of Clinical Dietitians in the system etc.

Time Management/Flexibility: Demonstrates awareness of professional time management. On average meets patient ratio goals. Demonstrates flexibility and can adjust schedule to meet daily needs.        

New Hire/Intern Training and Development: Creates a welcoming atmosphere, reviews trainee's documentation, observe trainee’s patient interactions and provided feedback in a constructive/positive manner consistently when training new hires and/or dietetic interns.

Leadership/Teamwork: Provides constructive feedback to move initiatives forward during department discussion/meetings. 


Other Job-Related Information:

This position works a minimum of 40 hours per pay period and has the majority of responsibility for a specific area. equired to have completed a Masters Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. These requirements are unique to our internal inpatient Clinical Nutrition Department and may not apply to other areas outside of the inpatient Clinical Nutrition Department.
