Work Your Magic with us! Start your next chapter and join MilliporeSigma.

Ready to explore, break barriers, and discover more? We know you’ve got big plans – so do we! Our colleagues across the globe love innovating with science and technology to enrich people’s lives with our solutions in Healthcare, Life Science, and Electronics. Together, we dream big and are passionate about caring for our rich mix of people, customers, patients, and planet. That's why we are always looking for curious minds that see themselves imagining the unimaginable with us.

Your Role:

As a Senior Bioinformatician in MilliporeSigma’s Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) R&D group at our Rockville, Maryland site, you will drive innovation in genomic research by developing advanced computational tools and analytical pipelines. Your work will bridge computational biology and molecular biology, enabling breakthroughs in transgenic evaluation, CRISPR-based studies, biosafety assessments, and other genomic applications. Leveraging your expertise in NGS, bioinformatics, genomics, and computer science, you will lead efforts to automate and optimize data analysis workflows, ensure software quality, and deliver actionable insights from complex genomic datasets.

  • Pipeline Development & Automation: Design, build, and enhance modular workflows and applications using Python, R, and Unix shell scripting for NGS data analysis. Implement these solutions in cloud-based platforms and local server environments to support scalable, high-throughput genomic services. Continuously test and refine existing tools to improve robustness and efficiency.
  • Genomic Data Management: Develop and maintain database systems to organize large-scale genomic data. Create scripts to standardize data formats, ensuring seamless integration with analytical pipelines and downstream applications.
  • Advanced Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze NGS datasets from multiple platforms (e.g., Illumina, Oxford Nanopore) and applications (e.g., WGS, RNA-seq, CRISPR screens) to extract biological insights. Integrate results with project objectives, identify trends across short- and long-read sequencing data, and provide data-driven recommendations to guide experimental design.
  • Visualization & Reporting: Design and develop interactive visualization modules and pipelines using tools like Python (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn), R (e.g., ggplot2, circosplot), or platforms like Tableau to transform complex NGS data into intuitive, actionable insights. Conduct multi-dimensional analysis to explore diverse data perspectives (e.g., statistical trends, biological patterns, technical artifacts) and identify optimal visualization strategies for varied audiences. This includes tailoring color schemes, plot granularity (e.g., font size, tick density, axis labels, legends), and interactivity levels to balance detail with clarity. Collaborate with team to iteratively refine visual outputs, ensuring accessibility and interpretability while maintaining scientific accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Diagnose and resolve issues in data analysis, algorithm design, and infrastructure (e.g., software, OS, network). Propose innovative solutions to technical challenges in pipeline development or data interpretation.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation: Ensure the reliability of software and analytical outputs through rigorous validation. Maintain detailed records of code, workflows, and analyses to uphold reproducibility and compliance with scientific standards.
