POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Oncology Practice Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the medical oncology practice within the community cancer center. The position provides direct oversight of clinical support staff, including nurses and medical assistants, as well as non-clinical administrative staff, including front desk/reception and scheduling teams.
This role ensures efficient patient throughput, smooth workflow, high-quality care delivery, and excellent customer service, while maintaining compliance with organizational standards, applicable regulations, and quality initiatives. The position collaborates closely with medical, nursing, and administrative leadership to achieve operational goals, support providers, and enhance patient experience.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or related field required. A minimum of 5–7 years of clinical experience in medical oncology may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
If applicable, must maintain an active New Jersey RN license or MA certification.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 3–5 years of medical practice management experience, preferably in oncology or specialty care.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with both clinical and non-clinical teams.
• Strong knowledge of outpatient clinical operations, EMR systems, and regulatory standards.
• Preferred: Experience in a cancer center or multidisciplinary oncology setting; familiarity with accreditation processes (ASCO, QOPI) or clinical trials; project management or process improvement certification.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the competencies and technical skills required for effective practice operations as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risks of a healthcare environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous substances. Requires ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient clinic setting and to utilize appropriate body mechanics when supporting staff and patient needs.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the Director of Oncology Operations.
