Role Description

Position Overview

QuadReal’s Enterprise Data & Analytics team is seeking an experienced Senior Analytics Engineer to drive enterprise reporting initiatives supporting business units by designing, implementing, and documenting data transformation pipelines and dimensional models using dbt. The role partners with BI Developers to deliver end-to-end data capabilities and mentors other analytics engineers (both internal and contractors). They work closely with Product Leads and stakeholders to translate business needs into engineering requirements.

The ideal candidate is someone who wants to build and improve data & insights that deliver business value and improve our engineering capabilities. This role combines technical leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and hands-on data expertise to ensure the successful delivery and adoption of high-impact data solutions.

This role can be based out of our Toronto or Vancouver office locations.

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling & Transformation

  • Serve as a data subject matter expert, bridging the gap between business needs and technical implementation.
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reusable data models and transformations (e.g., using dbt or similar tools), while establishing standards, testing procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with business and reporting teams to ensure data models meet analytical and operational requirements.

Pipeline Development

  • Build and optimize robust pipelines (e.g., using Airflow or similar tools) to transform raw data into clean, trusted datasets.
  • Work with data engineers to ensure ingestion pipelines integrate seamlessly with analytics layers.

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner with Product Leads, BI developers, Data Modelers, and business stakeholders to document reporting/analytics needs.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of analytics engineering standards and best practices.
  • Provide best practices and feedback to contractual engineers to ensure standards are being followed across the team and related projects.
  • Support self-service analytics by enabling stakeholders to create their own queries while increasing data literacy through training and documentation.

Data Quality, Governance and Performance Optimization

  • Establish data validation and testing of data models and data pipelines to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Document data models, data definitions, lineage, and business logic to support transparency and trust.
  • Tune queries, pipelines, and models for performance at scale across large, complex datasets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant analytics engineering or data engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field or equivalent experience
  • Advanced SQL skills and data modeling expertise
  • Strong Experience with dbt and implementing dimensional modeling
  • Experience with CI/CD practices for data pipelines
  • Experience with cloud data warehousing technologies (MS Fabric, Snowflake)
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow/Prefect
  • Proficiency with enabling data optimized for BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting to leadership
  • Collaborative approach with cross-functional teams
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000.

The actual salary offered will take into consideration a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s skill, experience, education and training, the market compensation of the role, and the consideration to internal equity.
