Description
The Mechanical Specialist Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplined corrective and preventative maintenance team of mechanical systems and equipment under IMG responsibility, being the management of them the key function of the position, but keeping a close relationship, communication, and support with technician team that operates, maintain and repair the assets.
Their efforts must be focused on assure the availability, and reliability of the assets and system in charge. Must keep constant concern evaluating and mitigating risks over them, identifying equipment criticism, defining, evaluating, and improving constantly the maintenance plans, and stocks of spare parts. Must also keep control and updated register of technical information, performance reports and actively support the technical problems investigation.
The successful candidate will carry out routine reviews on equipment, system, and processes, including the preparation of maintenance indicators or keeping them updated with data. Also, as part of its management duties, are the processes and procedures of the assets entrusted to its management, which include identifying the lack of any of them, auditing, updating and improvement of the existing ones, and audits them.
Other tasks assigned to the Mechanical Specialist are to watch over the accomplishment of standards and regulations, manage maintenance cost optimization, and follow up of the purchase processes throughout their cycle from the survey of the needs for spare parts, technical services, quotes for them, generation of the purchase process, reception of them, and approval of the invoices of the purchase processes managed.
Due to IMG being inserted into ALMA culture, the collaboration between different areas is one of the values, then the M.S. must consider the collaboration with other areas as an integral part of the philosophy of its work.
The position will not have a team of people under his direction, the planning, and execution of daily activities of operation and maintenance not being part of his functions, but he must collaborate closely with the supervisors and technicians, creating strong links of collaboration, bringing to them an engineering approach to the operation, best usage, and conceptual knowledge of the systems and equipment. The position demands that M.S. manages communications and relationships with external contractors being the contact point with them.
The M.S. must be a person eager to improve their knowledge and skills, open to constant self-education to improve their latent knowledge and improve their technical aptitude over topics with no or little chance develop in the past, accepting the challenge to increase their skills and knowledge when the position demands their development and mastery. An open mind, capability, logical reasoning, and willingness to learn are key factors for the position.
The successful candidate will report directly to the IMG Manager.

Working Conditions
- The position is based at the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF), (2900m) and occasionally at the Array Operations Site (5000m) near San Pedro de Atacama, working an 8x6 shift schedule (8 days of work, followed by 6 days off). Transportation to and from designated pick-up points is provided.
- Physical health compatible with high altitude conditions. A successful High Altitude Medical Exam is a necessary condition of employment.
- Work is typically performed in a research or development environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Willingness to travel overseas for both short and extended periods for meetings, training, etc. will be required.
- Must work near moving mechanical parts and/or electrical equipment.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneeling crouch.

Minimum Requirement (Must Have):
- University degree in Engineering with specialization in Mechanical or equivalent related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Minimum of 5+ years of work experience, with proven proficiency in developing and executing predictive, corrective, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge/understanding in one or more of the Infrastructure Maintenance Group compromised areas: Power generation systems, HVAC, pumps, fire detection and suppression systems, oxygen supply systems.
- English: B2 - Intermediate advanced level (Must be able to communicate efficiently in English both orally and in writing, to express complex ideas and make yourself understood with your interlocutor, as well as understand him.)
- Spanish: Fluent.
- Proficiency in software, such as: spreadsheets, word processing, CMMS/GMAO.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
