TxDOT’s Bridge Division is looking for a Bridge Asset Management Engineer based in Austin, TX. This individual will facilitate group meetings, supports the strategic implementation of transportation asset management, and ensures that standard procedures are set and followed. You will be help lead a team of Engineers, Data Analyst, and GIS Analyst who oversee all bridge inspection data for Texas’ inventory of over 57,000 bridges. This is 28,000 more bridges than any other state and more than the combined inventories of 17 states. Position Description
Transportation Engineer Iii
TxDOT’s Bridge Division is looking for a Bridge Asset Management Engineer based in Austin, TX. This individual will facilitate group meetings, supports the strategic implementation of transportation asset management, and ensures that standard procedures are set and followed. Performs [advanced] and complex transportation engineering work and serves as TxDOT’s bridge inventory engineer and lead data analyst. Performs statistical analysis, data visualization, data preparation, data quality control, and bridge lifecycle cost analysis used for bridge repair and bridge replacement recommendations. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. [Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Engineer IV - All above plus
Performs [highly] advanced and complex transportation engineering work Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. [Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer Iii
- Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
- Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.
- Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility.
- Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Performs engineering analysis of statewide Bridge conditions and develops reports on Bridge conditions.
- Trains engineering staff.
Transportation Engineer IV - All of the above plus
- Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.
- May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
Transportation Engineer V - All of the above plus
- Develops and supports implementation activities for new methods, procedures, and technologies.
- Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Verifies project eligibility and assists with ranking projects and funding.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
