Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an experienced and visionary Coordinator for Debt Management and Financial Literacy in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Our student population needs a dynamic and multi-faceted approach to delivering financial wellness resources and programming. This hybrid position offers the best of both worlds—two or three days a week on our Dallas campus and two days working from home for added flexibility. As the inaugural Coordinator, the selected applicant will have the opportunity to build a comprehensive debt management and financial literacy program for over 2000 students across our four schools: Medical School, School of Health Professions, School of Public Health, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The selected individual will develop and manage debt management and financial literacy programming and support students in achieving their educational and financial goals. They will collaborate with academic leadership, administrators across the university, and external partners in the community to deliver exceptional service to our students. Experience And Education

Required

  • Education

           Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Health Care Administration, Education/Social Science, or related field 

  • Experience

           5 years’ Experience in appropriate field

           May consider additional years of experience in lieu of education.

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain debt management and financial literacy programming for four schools
  • Demonstrate ability to envision, plan and follow through on projects and initiatives, working autonomously with little direct supervision
  • Manage the timely presentation of debt management and financial literacy materials, including seminars, workshops, town hall gatherings, and student engagement opportunities
  • Facilitate new events related to debt management and financial literacy including securing appropriate locations, coordinating event times with other student academic and social activities
  • Proactively seek out existing events and activities to which we can add value by providing financial education on various topics; present at existing sessions (Strive sessions for 1st and 2nd year medical students) 
  • Assessment of student needs and desires for programing topics
  • Establish and assess measurable student learning outcomes, program goals, and objectives.
  • Maintain documentation of all debt management and financial literacy activities, including metrics related to attendance and usage as well as satisfaction
  • Conduct and interpret ongoing evaluation and revision of debt management and financial literacy program outcomes
  • Communication, promotion, and advertisement of events and offerings
  • In conjunction with the Senior Debt Management Advisor, seeks and remains current on debt management and repayment resources
  • Develops and maintains multi-layered debt management/ financial literacy communication plan (financial wellness onboarding notice to incoming students, annual debt letter, etc) and track outcomes of said campaigns
  • Leverage new or existing technologies to deliver relevant debt management and financial literacy programming and materials
  • Ensure financial literacy website content and information pages are current and updated often
  • Support and advertise financial literacy external events
  • Prepare data-informed and results-driven proposals for additional resources or programming
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and student confidentiality requirements
  • Collaborate with all relevant academic and Student Services areas to assist students throughout the enrollment cycle, in matters relating to financial literacy, and resources to promote academic and financial success from entry through completion.
  • Serve as a resource for colleagues and students
  • Serve as main point of contact for lenders and servicers; maintain private loan lender list and associate materials and compliance documentation
  • Submits content for departmental newsletters
  • Coordinate with accounting to perform reconciliation of private and state loan disbursements monthly 
  • Provide loan repayment/ financial session for each cohort of every academic program in final semester before graduation

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal financial aid processes, concepts, and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing programs and initiatives for holistic student development and success.
  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education funding, federal student loans, and the private student loan market
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students/employees from the full range of diverse populations. •
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of diverse stakeholders/constituents
  • Ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently
  • Creative solution-focused individual with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Display a consistently professional and collaborative demeanor 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management, coordination, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent and creative presenter
  • Some social media skills
