Position Description:

The Department of Diagnosis and Oral Health, Division of Endodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor (Open Rank) – Endodontics faculty position. We are interested in a dynamic and focused educator who will commit to forwarding the mission of the Department and the School. This position may be tenure track or tenure depending on qualifications and experience. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Faculty practice opportunities are available.

Responsibilities:

This position has primary responsibilities in the training and supervision of DMD students. Specific duties will include didactic and clinical education of DMD students as well as in the pre-doctoral clinical education program, management of clinical staff, as well as clinical supervision of patient care. Additional responsibilities will include clinical endodontic consultations for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral dental programs; they may also include clinical training and supervision of students in the post-doctoral endodontics program, participation in post-doctoral seminars and advanced endodontic courses. Some participation with pre- and post-doctoral student research projects is anticipated.  Expectations include the development of congenial working relations with students, staff, and faculty to provide a positive environment and participation on the School of Dentistry committees and governance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • DDS/DMD degree or equivalent degree
  • Be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • Completion of a formal training program in Endodontics, preferably from a CODA-accredited institution or a documented equivalent

Preferred Requirements:

  • Board eligibility or Diplomate status from the American Board of Endodontics is preferred but not required

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated clinical excellence through previous teaching and service with the potential for scholarly activity. The position calls for an experienced and mature mentor with recognized interpersonal skills who can provide an evidence-based approach to DMD and post-doctoral education and clinical care in endodontics. The preferred candidate will be an experienced clinician with academic expertise in teaching and scholarly work with previous clinical and didactic responsibilities in a pre-doctoral clinical education program. A commitment to leadership roles in dental education and previous experience in teaching didactic, clinical, and preclinical endodontics is highly desirable. They must be committed to teaching and developing our pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral residents with dedication and commitment to providing full-scope quality care and service to patients. Candidates must also be driven to teach and develop our students and to give the highest quality of care to our patients. In addition to teaching experience, a candidate's dossier of research involvement, publications, and success in obtaining financing will be considered.
