The key responsibilities of the Patient Financial Coordinator (PFC) include but not limited to:
Duties And Responsibilities
Authorization, Eligibility, And Patient Collections:
- Verify that patients are eligible and authorized for services.
- Communicate eligibility and authorization status to the local Treatment Center Program Director or their designee.
- Conduct weekly and monthly eligibility checks via WayStar or payer websites.
- Train and audit front desk staff, office managers, and new Patient Registration Coordinators on third-party payer processes.
- Collaborate with front desk staff to implement new payer contracts.
- Review insured and uninsured patient balances on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Assist with patient communications regarding financial responsibilities, including requirements for self-pay when third-party coverage is not yet authorized.
- Notify patients immediately if eligibility is lost, placing them on self-pay status until eligibility is restored.
- Document all client accounts with approved or denied authorizations and communicate relevant information to front desk staff and patients.
- Track authorization thresholds for government and commercial accounts.
- Work with the Treatment Center Program Director to ensure prior authorizations are submitted before expiration to avoid coverage lapses.
- Identify patterns in authorization denials and recommend corrective actions or training for clinical staff.

- Adhere to BHG's attendance standards, arriving ready to work at the designated time.
- Report any workplace injuries, hazards, or security concerns immediately.
- Stay informed of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Comply with accreditation standards.
- Holds a basic understanding of alcohol/drug abuse and addiction
- Complies with all federal, state and local regulatory agency requirements
- Complies with all accrediting agencies
- Utilize consultation with higher-graded team members as appropriate

- Participate in community and public relations activities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
The Patient Financial Coordinator (PFC) must comply with federal and state regulations regarding certification, licensure, and degree.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
- Finance background
- Insurance claims or billing experience
- 1 year of experience in patient registration or medical billing.
- Experience supporting clinical staff with authorization documentation to ensure clean submissions.
- Ability to work closely with RCM Leadership and escalate issues promptly.
- Provide benefits assistance to clinical staff for patients with outstanding bills.
- Assist patients with Medicaid and grant sign-ups when necessary.
- Willingness to travel as needed.

- Must have sufficient knowledge of the substance abuse population, treatment planning and the field of human social services to work toward the rehabilitation of the patient community
