Are you an experienced technical leader with a passion for advancing clinical teaching and research? The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences is seeking a Technical Operations Manager to provide leadership and technical support across our Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Audiology programmes.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Lead and actively support the operation of specialised ophthalmic and audiological equipment, facilities, and digital systems that support clinical and pre-clinical teaching and research associated with Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Audiology.
  • Lead, mentor and support a team of technicians and technologists delivering services to staff, students, and clinics.
  • Ensure smooth technical operations for our Optometry and Audiology Clinics, working alongside clinicians, students, and patients.
  • Drive innovation through the development of systems, processes, and digital capabilities.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, operational delivery, and continuous improvement across technical services.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting high-quality teaching and research outcomes.
  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position.
  • Salary range is $96,800 - $103,600 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

We are seeking a technically skilled and people-focused leader who can bring both strategic and hands-on expertise. You will ideally have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as electrical engineering, mechatronics, biomedical engineering, or physics (postgraduate study in health sciences advantageous).
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing technical teams in a complex tertiary or clinical environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge in relevant disciplines and proven ability to manage specialist facilities and equipment.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety practices in laboratory or clinical settings.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and project management skills.
