**Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with participation in a rotating weekend coverage schedule**

Key Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs skilled & semi-skilled maintenance, replacement, minor installation & repair of electrical equipment
  • Performs carpentry work involving skilled & semi-skilled maintenance, alteration &/or repair to buildings, equipment & wooden structures
  • Assists in painting &/or performs minor painting of fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs & equipment; patches plaster & prepares surfaces for painting; assists in masonry work.
  • Performs interior custodial duties; performs exterior groundskeeping duties; removes snow & ice from sidewalks.
  • Operates machine tools & welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts & equipment; assists in repair & maintenance of interior & exterior maintenance equipment & other specialized equipment; performs minor vehicle repairs & maintenance.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment); in Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190); in accordance with section 124.11 (B) (2) of revised code, Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

Preferred Qualifications: Backhoe and/or forklift experience

Unusual Working Conditions:  May be required to stand for extended periods of time.  May be required to lift heavy objects from time to time.  May be exposed to a variety of bodily fluids and infectious diseases from residents.  May be required to work weekends and mandatory overtime.

Supplemental Information

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. The applicant is required to provide details of minimum qualifications on the application form. Failure to do so will prohibit consideration of the applicant. New hires agree to participate in the State of Ohio Direct Deposit of Paycheck Program per Section 124.151(B) of the Ohio Revised Code.

Unless otherwise required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases after completing probation and following successful annual performance evaluations.

The final applicant selected for this position may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to an appointment to test for illegal drug use.  The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result.  Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year (not applicable to current state employees). 

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal records check as required by Section 3721.121 of the Ohio Revised Code.  Applicants who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any of the offenses listed in 3721.121 (C)(1)(a) may be excluded from consideration.
