Geophysics Internship
Fervo Energy
Office
Houston, TX, US
Internship
Description
The Geophysics Intern will support Fervo Energy’s data analysis team in developing innovative insights into how fiber optic sensing data can be applied to characterize reservoir fracture systems. Key responsibilities include analyzing distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data to build rigorous models of fracture, fluid, and fault interactions that influence stress distributions, as well as seismic and aseismic fault activity. The intern will also contribute to exploring the use of scientific machine learning approaches to enhance these models.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Advanced graduate student in Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience using Python, Julia, or similar programming languages for data analysis & visualization
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills
- Willingness and ability to collaborate effectively in a remote work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with fiber optic data (e.g., DAS, DTS)
- Familiarity with commercial or open-source software for numerical simulations
- Strong foundation in theoretical models of stress–strain behavior in faults & fractures
- Experience applying machine learning methods to scientific or engineering problems
Location
Fervo Energy has offices in Houston, TX, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, Oakland, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at any of the above locations will be required.
