This specialized analyst role focuses exclusively on evaluating the performance of weapons systems through direct observation and analysis of at-sea weapons firings during naval exercises. The position requires extensive hands-on experience with ASW weapons systems, exercise torpedo firings, and tactical assessment of weapon effectiveness across surface combatant and aviation platforms. You will serve as the primary weapons subject matter expert for complex international exercises, providing critical analysis that directly informs Navy weapons procurement, tactical development, and operational readiness decisions.

Essential Functions

At-Sea Weapons Firing Operations

  • Observe and provide direct support during at-sea firings of ASW weapons systems in naval exercises involving U.S. and partner nation forces.
  • Coordinate weapons firing sequences during multi-platform exercises, including surface ships, submarines, and aircraft.

  • Support Submarine Command Course (SCC) Operations and SHAREM Limited Objective Experiments (LOEs) involving weapons firing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with weapons safety protocols and exercise firing procedures during complex multi-day events.

Weapons Data Collection & Extraction

  • Manage data transfer and archiving from multiple platforms and weapons systems throughout exercise periods.

Weapons Performance Analysis & Assessment

  • Reconstruct detailed weapon firing sequences and tactical engagements using collected performance data.
  • Analyze SQQ-89 system-level tapes for weapons control performance using Surface Advanced Warfighting School (SAWS) Raptor or Virtual Operator Trainer (VOT) systems.
  • Formulate accurate assessments of weapon system performance against specified Measures of Effectiveness (MOE) and Measures of Performance (MOP).
  • Analyze surface combatant attack proficiency, air delivery weapons effectiveness, and platform evasion tactics.
  • Evaluate weapons system integration across unit, strike group, and theater-level operations.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of weapons performance trends across multiple exercises and firing events.

Technical Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate exercise weapons results through oral briefings and comprehensive written reports to naval commands, engineering laboratories, and program offices.
  • Author detailed weapons analysis sections of Reconstruction and Analysis reports documenting performance outcomes and tactical recommendations.
  • Provide technical insight and recommendations during weapons-focused workshops, conferences, and program reviews.
  • Support Cross-REM analysis efforts focusing on weapons system performance across multiple exercise datasets.
  • Prepare technically accurate correspondence and briefings for senior military leadership and acquisition programs.

Weapons System Development Support

  • Assist in providing insight during ad hoc weapons meetings, workshops, and conferences with Program Executive Officers and weapons contractors.
  • Support validation of emerging weapons tactics, techniques, and procedures through systematic performance analysis.
  • Contribute to weapons system capability gap assessments and inform Program Objective Memorandum (POM) decisions.
  • Coordinate with Navy weapons laboratories and development commands to support weapons system improvements.
