We at the Family Health Centre, St. Michael’s Health Care Services, are excited to invite applications for a permanent, part-time Medical Office Assistant. If available you can be a back up for coverage during the week. We are looking for an experienced professional with a warm, welcoming personality, strong communication skills, and a passion for providing excellent client service to be the first point of contact in our department.

This role is based at our Family Health Clinic, located at 7404 – 139 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta, and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Healthcare Services.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Family Health Centre Responsibilities (Primary Role)

  • Provide coverage for day-to-day operational tasks during staff absences.
  • Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and greet clients in a professional manner.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are properly stocked and sanitized.
  • Escort clients to examination rooms and assist them as needed.
  • Ensure client medical records are updated and available for attending physicians.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, as required.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing appointments for clients.
  • Maintain and organize client medical records according to privacy and confidentiality standards.

Mobile X-Ray Responsibilities: (Back up for Sick, Vacation, or LOA's)

  • Receive and review mobile x-ray requisitions for accuracy and completeness.

  • Enter patient and requisition information into the Velox system for the X-ray technologist.

  • Manage incoming and outgoing communications, including phone calls, faxes, and reporting requests.

  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the Mobile X-Ray team.

 

EDUCATION:

  • The successful candidate will possess a minimum of three years recent Medical Office Assistant experience.
  • Have excellent Microsoft Office word-processing skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel. 
  • A Medical Office Assistant certificate is required.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate is an asset.
  • An interest in a Family Health Clinic environment is preferred.

 

All successful candidates must have, prior to start date:

  • A current and clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
  • A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
