Purpose
Why do we need this role?
To coordinate a team who provide advice, review and prepare documents in order for the Legal Services team to help business and personal bank deliver exceptional service by providing commercial legal advice quickly, consistently and in line with NAB’s risk appetite. Manages projects to ensure work is delivered on time and accurately. Organizes documents into formal reports as needed. Provides training to enable the team to effectively use legal information sources to perform required research.
Essential capabilities
- Coordination of the provision of legal research information in the required format and timeframe from the team.
- Ability to train the team in the efficient use of legal information sources to perform their research work effectively.
- Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods and other related matters.
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills along with strong attention to detail.
- Broad range of interpersonal and relationship management skills to support and enable positive outcomes for our customers.
- Ability to problem solve, act autonomously and with sound judgment.
- High level computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with word processing functions using Microsoft Office package and the use of databases and customer request management systems and an ability to learn new systems
- Excellent drafting and research skills.
Experience
- Managing teams to deliver to a high standard and within the required timeframes. Desirable to have experience with the process of establishing a new team.
- Familiarity with Legal Services paralegal functions and relevant NAB systems (e.g. Siebel, Elite (soon to be WorkEasy) and iManage) or similar.
- Transactional background.
- Experience and an understanding of NAB’s risk appetite.
- Customer focus and strategic mindset.
Key Accountabilities
- Management of the team, including delegation, communication of goals, workflow oversight and escalation for any issues
- Provide training to the team to enable proficiency in all work types relevant to their role and actively maintain proficiency in all work types related to their role.
- Provide assistance and support to the junior paralegals.
- Completing new work types with high levels of complexity from other internal legal teams.
- Collaborating with lawyers in DTLO and other lines of business to support large scale projects and initiatives
- Effective collaboration with other Legal teams across NAB, utilised by in-house counsel on an ad-hoc or ongoing basis to better manage their teams and increase the capability of existing teams.
- Are relationship-led. Communicate concisely, clearly and calmly to our bankers. Help continue to strengthen our relationships.
- Embrace continuous improvement through pro-active involvement in, and implementation of, initiatives which drive simplifying processes and continuous improvement.
- Focus on a continuous growth mindset.
- Working together positively with each Legal Services colleague, internal and external stakeholders.
