World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is Bhutan’s oldest conservation partner. The partnership began in 1977 through capacity development of local conservation staff. The support gradually evolved into a full country program with several collaborative conservation projects.
Recognizing the need to conserve Bhutan’s natural capital and immense biological diversity, WWF-Bhutan supports the Royal Government with various environmental conservation programs targeting immediate and longer-term conservation issues. The programs include research and study, education and awareness, promotion of sustainable livelihoods, and protection of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. Addressing human-wildlife conflict, illegal wildlife trade, and mitigation and adaptation to climate change are of paramount importance to WWF-Bhutan’s conservation works in the country.

Job Description
Duties And Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communications
Strategically align messaging with program goals and organizational values. The candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping WWF-Bhutan’s voice and presence across platforms and audiences.
- Proposal engagement: Collaborate closely with program team during proposal development to identify and integrate impactful communications strategies and activities tailored to each project.
- Social media management: Manage social media channels of WWF-Bhutan, which includes content creation, scheduling, engagement, analytics and ensuring alignment with global WWF branding and messaging standards.
- Event coordination: Support the planning and execution of key organizational events such as workshops, seminars, campaigns, project review meetings and other activities outlines in the annual calendar.
- Content Development and Design
The Communications Officer will be responsible for producing high-quality, engaging, and visually compelling contents that reflect WWF-Bhutan’s mission and impact. This includes both print and digital media, tailored for internal and external audiences.
- Regular publications: Develop, design, and disseminate recurring communications materials such as the Panda Quarterly Newsletter, Annual Report, and WWF-Bhutan calendar, ensuring consistency in tone, branding and messaging.
- Projects and organizational publications: Create and distribute a wide range of publications including reports, proposals, fact sheets, brochures, posters and other project-specific communication products.
- Digital media production: Produce and disseminate digital contents such as videos, documentaries, and photo stories that capture the essence of WWF-Bhutan’s work and engage stakeholders across platforms.
- Network communications assets: Develop and contribute communications assets for use across the WWF global network, ensuring alignment with international standards and storytelling approaches.
- Program support: Collaborate with programs to package and disseminate communications outputs that highlight project achievements, milestones, and lessons learnt.
- Archiving and asset management: Maintain a well-organized archie of all WWF-Bhutan publications, photographs, audio-visual materials and other communications assets for easy retrieval and institutional memory.
- Brand Management
Demonstrate a strong understanding of WWF’s global brand identity and a commitment to maintaining consistency across all communications efforts. The Communication Officer will also support outreach initiatives that promote WWF-Bhutan’s conservation mission to key audiences.
- Brand compliance: Ensure that all communications materials, whether print, digital and event-related adhere to WWF’s brand standards, including tone, visual identity and messaging.
- Event support: Assist in the planning and execution of events designed to promote WWF-Bhutan’s conservation work to targeted audiences, including stakeholders, partners and the general public.
- Social media management: Regularly update and manage the official social media channels ensuring timely, engaging, and brand-aligned content that reflects ongoing projects, achievements, and organizational values.
- Relationship Management
The Communications Officer will serve as a key ambassador for WWF-Bhutan, fostering strong relationships with media and external stakeholders to amplify the organization’s voice and visibility.
- Public relations representation: Represent WWF-Bhutan in public forums and media interactions. This includes managing correspondence, producing and distributing audio-visual materials.
- Media engagement: Build and maintain a strong relationship with local media, and international media where required, to ensure timely and accurate coverage of WWF-Bhutan’s initiatives, achievements and stories.
- Fundraising Support
The Communications Officer will contribute to WWF-Bhutan’s fundraising efforts by supporting donor engagement and developing compelling materials that communicate impact and inspire support.
- Support inquiries: Respond to and manage both online and offline inquiries related to fundraising, ensuring timely and professional communications with potential and existing supporters.
- Fundraising materials: Assist in the development of fundraising assets such as donor communication materials, campaign collateral, and impact stories that align with WWF-Bhutan’s mission and branding.
Working Relationships:
- Internal: The Communications Officer will work closely with WWF-Bhutan staff on a daily basis, reporting directly to the Senior Manager for Communications and Marketing. The role also involves close collaboration with program teams, particularly the IKI project team to ensure effective delivery of project-specific communication outputs.
- External: Maintain strong and proactive engagement with colleagues across the WWF network, as well as with external entities associated with WWF-Bhutan’s work. This includes government agencies, conservation partners, media representatives, and other stakeholders relevant to the organization’s mission and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related fields
Minimum Experience: At least 4 years of similar work experience is required
Skills & Knowledge:
The Communications Officer will exhibit a strong blend of technical expertise, linguistic proficiency, and creative flair to support WWF-Bhutan’s communications goals.
- Language Proficiency:
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
- Proficiency in Dzongkha is essential; knowledge of additional languages is a strong asset.
- Design And Publishing Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency in design and publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong understanding of web and mobile design best practices
- Digital Communication Tools:
- Competence in using a wide range of communications tools and applications for content creation, dissemination, and engagement across platforms.
- Other Skills & Knowledge:
- Fluency in English and Dzongkha (written and spoken)
- Should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building competencies coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills.
