Job Description

As a Data Science Manager, you will bridge the gap between non-technical and technical audiences, translating strategic goals into actionable analytics work items. The role is responsible for leading a team, build and govern the application and implementation of analytics and data products to drive and influence business strategy, enable the business to manage risk, identify opportunities, develop products, optimise channels and payment rails and analyse and optimising processes through data science, statistical modelling, prescriptive analytics and business partnering.

We are seeking an experienced Data Science Manager to support the FNB Retail Data and Analytics Office with a focus on the Personal Segment. You’ll support the business through the development of predictive and prescriptive analytics to drive More to Customers. This is achieved through partnering with business, translating business strategy into analytical artifacts and identifying analytical opportunities and drive these within business. Beyond individual contributions, you'll play a vital role in managing and mentoring Data scientists, guiding them through advanced analytics techniques and fostering their growth within our dynamic team. If you're passionate about leveraging data to drive customer-centric strategies and eager to drive business value through analytics we want to hear from you.

• Has end to end model development experience as well as, appreciation for statistics and able to translate models, insights and optimisation into business value.
• Has experience with disparate data and identifying unique data patterns for deep analysis and feature creation.

• Has strong technical skills with strong coding proficiency in SAS, SAS Viya or Python.
• Hard working individual that can work well under pressure.

• Has A/B Testing methodology background to measure uplift and improve KPIs.
• Abstraction of and translating business problems into analytical products and insights, delivering through a team of data scientists

• Produce innovative ideas and solutions based on data, stating assumptions and overcoming challenges.

• In-depth knowledge/experience in predictive and prescriptive analytics as well as statistical analysis.

• Understanding of both the technical points of Data science, as well as key business drivers. 
• Portfolio management
• The ability to be highly effective at providing strategic direction on the functional interpretation (and articulation) of knowledge through application of data insights and analytics to enable sales growth
• Strong stakeholder management skills including effective communication and management of stakeholder expectations including executives
• Mentoring of junior and intermediate Data scientists on technical and statistical principles.

Qualifications And Experience

• Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Mathematical sciences, Statistics, Data Science or Actuarial Science
• Preferred Qualification: Honours Degree
• Experience: A minimum of 5 - 7 years' relevant experience within Analytics or Data Science of which 2 years in a Senior data science role
• End to end Model development experience (predictive and prescriptive analytics)
• Decision science, optimisation and testing methodologies
• Strong coding proficiency in SAS, SAS Viya or Python
• Able to work with Big Data; Teradata (advantageous)
• Strong stakeholder management experience
