Job Description:

Are you an organized individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for customer service? The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission is looking for someone like you to join our team! This customer-focused role offers an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of horse racing and gaming regulation in Nebraska. This position will be based at the casino property in Grand Island or Columbus, based on candidate preference, and will require regular weekly travel to the other location.

Examples Of Work

  • Provides administrative support to the front desk, including duties such as sorting mail, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and greeting guests.
  • Handles the daily processing of licensing applications, including answering applicant questions, reviewing applications, data entry, obtaining fingerprints, processing payments, and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • Coordinates renewal notices to ensure licensees maintain their status.
  • Collaborates with other NRGC divisions and the Nebraska State Patrol on background checks and fingerprinting.
  • Maintains secure files and handling confidential information for applicant records.
  • Supports the implementation of Nebraska Statutes and Rules and Regulations under Title 294 and Title 296.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the Commission’s evolving needs.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency. OR Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.

Other: This job requires regular, reliable onsite attendance. Position requires in-state travel on a weekly basis, including weekends, and as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license. **NRGC employees are prohibited from gambling or placing a wager in any establishment licensed by the Commission.**

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in using computers and the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Capable of understanding, interpreting, and applying various rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to other NRGC locations 2-3 times per week or as needed. (Travel time is paid time and done using a State vehicle).
