Working as part of a multi-disciplinary imaging team, the Supervisor - Molecular Imaging/ NM , under the direction of the Manager, oversees the operational activities pertaining to the relevant Nuclear Medicine (NM) and PET /CT imaging service or program to ensure delivery of a high-quality Diagnostic imaging service. The NM and PET /CT service provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and interventional procedures on pediatric and adult patients on a referral basis and medical research. The Supervisor - Molecular Imaging/ NM deputizes for the Manager, is the professional lead in their area of responsibility and is responsible for the supervision of the technologists and students within the service to ensure the continuity of service delivery.  Through the production of high-quality images, the Supervisor - Molecular Imaging/ NM is responsible to ensure a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, parents and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Performs and provides an efficient and effective NM-MI imaging service for the department of Diagnostic Imaging. Supervises NM-MI Technologists and students within the service and ensures continuity of service delivery. Through the production of high-quality images, is responsible to ensure a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, parents and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medicine.
  • Assesses NM-MI requests for clinical appropriateness in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures and makes decisions regarding correct imaging technique to ensure high quality diagnostic images.
  • Schedules, supervises, delegates and oversees NM-MI service resources at a designated section of the department.
  • Responsible for direct management of a designated section/program of the NM-MI service. 
  • Ensures areas/programs under direct management are safely delivered with optimal utilization of equipment and personnel.
  • Supervises directly all NM-MI Technologists and students within the designated NM-MI section for the duration of the shift.
  • Plans, prioritizes and organizes a range of highly complex activities and projects for a designated section or program of the NM-MI service.
  • Interprets highly complex clinical information and acts independently in the assessment of referrals for NM-MI examinations to ensure appropriate studies are performed.
  • Works independently, performs all routine and specialized NM-MI procedures, and associated responsibilities, as dictated by the workload in the rostered area.
  • Utilizes skills to assess a patient’s condition, often acute, and decides on an appropriate method to obtain a diagnostic image from a range of options in consultation with the supervising radiologist, ensuring the necessary patient care is provided to patients of all ages.
  • Ensures evidence-based data and standards of practice with NM-MI imaging are applied to the examination being performed.
  • Provides patient care to patients of all ages, as required.
  • Presents and receives highly complex technical, scientific and clinical information.
  • Participates in standby and on call roster systems for the Diagnostic Imaging service as required, in imaging areas appropriate to training and qualifications, as designated by senior staff.
  • Monitors and maintains stock levels for consumables relative to the service.
  • Plans scans and orders Radiopharmacy consumables and radioactive isotopes, as required.
  • Provides support and relief for department manager and supervisors, as required.
  • Ensures that systems and standards that promote patient safety and safe practices for delivering patient care for the modality are adhered to, as directed. 
  • Provides modality expertise in reference to the NM-MI service, assists in the maintenance and development of the NM-MI service.
  • Maintains a high level of expertise and manages faults/issues effectively to guarantee the safe operations of the NM-MI equipment, ensuring an efficient flow and optimal utilization of resources. 
  • Implements directed change to effect continual improvement in services provided, and ensures compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Develops, contributes, participates and complies with quality improvement programs and competency assessment initiatives for the Diagnostic imaging services. 
  • Provides appraisals of staff as directed. 
  • Participates in mandatory training and actively practices continual professional development in alignment with professional development programs to ensure maintenance of professional licensure/accreditation.
  • Participates in the development and functioning of a nuclear medicine therapy service.
  • Develops, contributes, implements and delivers training and development programs on equipment and procedures in the area of operations, in alignment with the facilities training objectives and plans.
  • Provides leadership to diagnostic imaging staff. Advises other clinical and students during NM-MI procedures, as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized under stressful situations.  Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility and maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Attends divisional meetings and other meetings, as appropriate.
  • Performs necessary QA in the department.
  • Works in and manages the Radiopharmacy appropriately.
  • Participates and contributes to the budgetary process, as directed.
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection policies and associated codes of practice and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.
  • Adheres to departmental and applicable organizational policies, procedures, regulations relevant to the NM-MI patient care team.  Maintains accurate and concise records of all imaging received by the patient using the appropriate systems.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – REQUIREMENTS       ESSENTIAL   Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Imaging or Nuclear medicine
  • Post Graduate qualification in specialty area is required if base degree is not within the Nuclear Medicine field
  Experience
  • 5+ years clinical experience including 2+ years of supervisory experience in Nuclear medicine and/or PET/CT imaging 
  • Preferred: Experience in a dedicated paediatric and/or Obgyn medical imaging facility
  Certification and Licensure
  • Eligible for registration with the ARRT/CAMRT/HCPC or an equivalent licensing/accreditation board as a Nuclear medicine technologist
  • Eligible for licensure as a Nuclear medicine technologist in the State of Qatar
  • Current License in country of origin
  Job Specific Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated extensive functional knowledge and clinical experience in nuclear medicine, PET/CT
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Joint Commission and Joint Commission International accreditation standards and radiation safety guidelines
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of ongoing continual professional development 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
