Description
Biostatistics (Spring 2026): A freshman/sophomore level 3-credit biostatics course. This course will introduce students to the basic statistical techniques that are used in conducting biological and medical research. Main topics covered include descriptive statistics (averages, variability), probability and probability distributions (basic probability theory and how distributions are used in inference), statistical inference (parametric and non-parametric tests); and relationships between variables (correlation and linear). Students will become familiar with standard statistical analyses using a standard software package. R is preferred (and has been used in past course offerings) but alternative packages such as SAS and SPSS are acceptable.
Enrollment cap for this course is 100.
Class time:
Tuesday/Thursday 11:00-11:50 am.
Part time faculty receive a competitive salary on a per course basis. In addition, part time faculty in the Biology Department have shared office space to prepare lectures and meet with students. Responsibilities include:

prepare and deliver course lectures at the assigned course time

write and grade examinations (with graduate TA support)

be available for 2-3 office hours per week
Qualifications
Qualifications: Instructors teaching lecture courses must have an MS, PhD, or other advanced degree in an appropriate field of study. We will consider post-doctoral fellows seeking university teaching experience.
