Job Description Summary

The Quality and Lean Leader will be responsible for quality assurance, quality control, and Lean activities in the repair service shop. The candidate will collaborate extensively with internal teams as well as external teams and customers, actively incorporating Lean into various activities to deliver high-quality and productive products to customers. Additionally, the candidate will lead a team of production members within the quality functions and Lean activities in the repair service shop.

Job Description

The Quality and Lean Leader is responsible for the business goals of the entire shop regarding quality and Lean activities. The Quality and Lean Leader will lead efforts in problem-solving related to quality and all Lean activities within the shop, partnering with different functions to develop and execute strategies concerning both quality and Lean. This role reports to the repair service shop manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Quality and Lean Leader will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role, you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

  • Drive achievement of Quality and Lean metrics for the plant.

  • Develop & implement strategies to drive proactive quality and lean culture.

  • Assure audit of areas of responsibility for conformance to quality plans, systems, and requirements.

  • Responsible for initiation and CAPA for RCA (Root Cause Analysis), drive process or product qualification.

  • Monitor and support the CoPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) recovery by partnering with different functions.

  • Responsible for execution of QMS and Compliance requirements associated with the plant.

  • Utilizes technical expertise and judgement to solve problems. Leverages technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions,

  • Lead audit efforts for site certifications such as ISO:9001,

  • Resolution of quality defects in collaboration with offsite engineering and serve as liaison to internal and external customers,

  • Manage the structured OJT and skill certification scheme for production members,

  • Support the quality leadership to establish proper communication strategy to communicate across the entire organization business and quality performance (all hands meeting, newsletters, quality read across, etc.)

Required Qualifications

  • Prefer to have a bachelor's degree in engineering (Materials, Metallurgy, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical and Other Related Fields) from university.

  • A minimum of 4 to 6 years of experience as an engineer in the manufacturing industry, including quality and Lean, with expertise across technical areas

  • At least intermediate level of active Japanese (daily contact with plant employees and local customers in Japan) is required.

  • At least intermediate level of active English (daily contact with foreign colleagues) is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 and other relevant quality frameworks,

  • At least 3 additional years of experience in Quality System Planning and Quality Improvement methods.

  • Work at the plant in Yokohama, Japan
