Qualifications
POSTION SUMMARY
This position will support Goodwill Industries of San Antonio for performing and managing general cleaning duties and staff at our Retail, Office and Warehouse locations. This includes supervising the janitorial team, and providing training and support to janitorial and retail staff at other retail locations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of cleanliness. You will be responsible for weekly and daily employee schedules, oversee daily tasks to ensure that they are completed well and on time, and manage our inventory of cleaning equipment and supplies. You will assist with administrative tasks (including payroll) and ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations. In addition, to support the organization in its mission to help change lives through the power of work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and commit to mission services delivery to janitorial team members as a high priority in operations. Work collaboratively with life skills coaches and Human Resources to perform this mission.
- Establish a culture of compliance with safety, ethics and quality standards within all operations.
- Provide leadership, training, guidance and support to team members that foster continuous learning and improvement in performance of the individual and the operation.
- Build janitorial success by properly selecting, training, mentoring and developing employees. Ensure personal leadership is first focused on people and mission. Build strong teamwork throughout the unit.
- Be attentive to turnover, encouraging positive movement for employees, whether inside or outside Goodwill. Minimize no-call/no-show behaviors through effective individual employee communications.
- Engage employees through servant leadership and modeling of expected work ethic. Take professional interest in employees’ needs to develop them and facilitate positive change as needed.
- Develop and deploy effective staffing models and scheduling procedures to achieve the most effective and efficient operation for the locations. Monitor and ensure course corrections.
- Champion regular communications with all employees to ensure current information about Goodwill’s initiatives, programs, benefits, announcements, goals, expectations and accountabilities are broadly known.
- Take a proactive role in protecting the organizations’ assets, resources, equipment and supply inventories by appropriately controlling expenses and maintaining assets. Minimize issues through direct observation procedures, and take immediate corrective action as needed.
- Manage and oversee a team of custodians at various locations and shifts.
- Visit locations on a regular basis and inspect all work performed to ensure it meets company standards. Submit formal audits on a schedule.
- Manage work orders and ensure work completed complies with the specifications and there is proper documentation of assignments.
- Act as primary onsite point-of-contact for janitorial team for any questions, concerns, or disputes they may have.
- Adjust scheduling as necessary in instances of staff shortages.
- Attending meetings and training sessions as required.
- Promptly respond to any customer inquiries and take action as soon as possible.
- Ensure the team members present a neat and professional image.
- Ensure efficiency of work team and make adjustments as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education Minimum: High school diploma or GED. Preferred: some college, bachelor’s degree in management, operations or similar field.
- Experience minimum: 1-2 years’ supervisory experience. Preferred: 3-5 years’ experience in facility maintenance/janitorial supervision
- Skills: proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, some experience in work order systems. Using a computer to produce information and documents.
- Knowledge: General janitorial. To include cleaning methods, chemical and equipment usage. Stripping and waxing, buffer and carpet extraction knowledge useful.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position. Able to lift heavy equipment – up to minimum 25 lbs. and to be able to stand for extended periods.
- For positions that require driving, must maintain a valid drivers’ license and automobile insurance coverage, and be able to travel as needed if you drive your vehicle during company business.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay ahead of repetitive, ongoing tasks.
- Proven track record mentoring and training subordinate employees.
- Willingness to engage in hands-on work when team is short-staffed or behind schedule.
- Expertise in commercial cleaning equipment and practices.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background test and drug screen.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
