Job Description Summary

At the heart of Novartis' purpose and value creation, the passionate Development organisation are reimaging medicine by turning molecules into medicines. The Development Finance team Partner for Impact in this mission critical work with a team of curious, experimenting and performance driven associates. You will be the key finance business partner for a range of Global Development Functions (including Clinical Development, Advanced Quantitative Science, Regulatory Affairs and Patient Safety), managing all BPA activities through fully integrating planning processes with an increasing impact of the BPA organization.

Reporting directly to the CFO Development, you will be an integral member of the Development Finance Leadership team, the respective Development Global Function business leadership teams, and serve as the organization lead for the Development Finance hub team at the Barcelona Site.

 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and present long term business strategies and operational plans and drive discipline in executing regional / global strategies for own part of the organization.
• Lead all financial planning processes for the organization within the related own part of the organization (SMART budgets, proactive Outlook Opportunities and Risks, updates to the CFO, bi-annual business dialogues), provide financial input for C&BD activities, and oversee management reporting.
• Oversee the management and development of the full Barcelona Development Finance BPA teams, including team culture, talent management and integration within the broader cross finance hub.  
• Support the Global Function leadership teams with financial analysis (including Risks and Opportunities analysis), cost analysis and control and drive corrective actions.
• Direct and review specific value-added analyses, e.g. resource allocation, capability investment proposals, activity cost analyses, benchmarking, and recommend resource allocation for own part of the organization.
• Direct the development, review and approval of comprehensive BPA processes and policies, and ensure adherence thereof (e.g.: Capital Approval Process, IT Project Investments, Development Work Package planning).
• Sponsor / lead / initiate key BPA projects including adoption of Digital Finance capabilities, BPA skill development and process optimization.

Essential Criteria:

• Proven leadership skills in building, developing, and inspiring a team of Direct & Indirect reports
• Strong executive level communication skills with the ability to influence effectively and communicate complex ideas with insight
• Highly curious leader with demonstrated ability to explore and learn new business topics
• Extensive experience in Business Planning and Analysis in Country/Regional role or Country Financial Leadership experience
• Ability to navigate matrixed organizations and complex information and able to synthesize into insights that can drive strategic decisions
• Proficiency in English required – spoken and written.

Desirable Criteria: 

• Relevant degree (e.g.in Finance & Accounting)
• Professional Qualification in Finance/Accounting
• Additional languages such as Spanish
