Principal Responsibilities:
Colleagues Related
- Financial Controller’s appointment, termination and salary related decisions will be recommended by the Managing Director and approved by Corporate Office.
- Financial Controller is ultimately responsible for the recruitment, termination and any changes of employment status for every staff within the Finance Department of the hotel. Accurate job descriptions should be developed and maintained for staff within the Finance Department.
- Financial Controller is responsible for the overall coaching and development of the Finance team to ensure operational efficiency and business effectiveness is achieved.
Finance Related
Capital Projects
- Ensure all capital expenditure is in line with established spending guidelines and approved budgets.
- Prepare financial projections, justifications and other documents for assessment by Corporate Office and owner in accordance with the management agreement
Reporting /Budgeting
- Adhere to reporting schedule and requirements from Corporate Office, owner and local statutory and regulatory bodies, as required.
- Investigate business trends and deviations to budget and last year, and provide recommendations for rectifications and/or improvement to hotel management.
- Preparation and coordination of annual budget for submission to Corporate Office.
Operations / process Related
- Corporate Office is responsible for establishing and regularly updating the Financial Controller manual to better cater for changes in the business environment.
- Financial Controller should review and approve in conjunction with the General Manager all contracts and legal agreement entered into by the hotel.
- Financial Controller to ensure strict adherence to all contracts and legal agreements, including management agreement if applicable.
- Safeguard all legal documents and original contracts of the hotel (except for Sales & Marketing and Employment Contract which are kept by respective departments).
- Adherence to local laws and regulations.
- Maintain list of licenses and permits and ensure prompt renewal is made.
Leadership and sustainability Related
Control / Audit
- Develop, implement and maintain sound internal control systems to protect the interest of the hotel.
- Implement adequate segregation of duties e.g. different employees handling receipts and disbursement functions.
- Conduct regular audit and review internal control systems to ensure compliance by employees.
- Continuous review of internal controls for improvement.
- The Financial Controller has the right to access and review any data and information relating to and resulting from any hotel business activities as deem.
- The Financial Controller may ask any questions relating to the hotel business activities to ascertain sufficient information to effectively carry out his job duties.
- In doing so, the Financial Controller should handle inter-departmental communications tactfully and sensitive situation discreetly.
Meetings
- Financial Controller must participate in hotel operational meetings which include, but not limited to, the following:
a) Daily morning briefing
b) Executive Committee/Department Head meeting
C) Credit Meeting
d) Sales & Marketing / Yield meeting
E) Budget/Forecast Meeting
Others
- Financial Controller must be one of the authorized signatories for bank accounts opened under the hotel in accordance with the management agreement.
- Financial Controller is responsible for sourcing, reviewing and recommending suitable and cost-effective insurance coverage for the hotel in a timely manner to ensure insurance coverage in place at all times.
- The above job description will be amended from time to time with mutual agreement and you need to perform any duties assigned by the Management deemed necessary.
- Requirements:
- 10-year or above working experience in hotel accounting
- Degree holder in Accounting
- Holder of CPA or ACCA
- Pre-opening experience preferred
Knowledge & Skill
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office application, especially Word and Excel
- Knowledge of particular systems such as Property Management System (PMS), Payroll system and back-office system such as Opera
- Sensitive to numbers and figures
- Familiar with hotel’s accounting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
