RequirementsOVERVIEW
The Head of Data Analytics will own the vision and execution of Coastal’s AI-first data strategy, leading a high-impact team focused on delivering actionable insights, scalable analytics products, and a culture of self-service. This role will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to prioritize and execute data initiatives that directly inform product, operational, and growth decisions. Key responsibilities include leading advanced analytics efforts—such as forecasting, segmentation, and predictive modeling—mentoring a team of data scientists and analysts, and ensuring data is accessible, trusted, and embedded in how the business operates.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE
- Own the vision for Data & Analytics at Coastal and lead the strategy and execution to build an AI-first function that delivers scalable, self-service insights and enables data-driven decision making across the company.
- Collaborate with senior leadership across Product, Operations, Finance, Risk, and Engineering to define and prioritize data initiatives that drive business outcomes.
- Lead a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative environment while developing their skills and elevating the quality, speed, and impact of the work delivered.
- Build data products, prioritizing reusable, well-documented, scalable analytics assets that enable faster, smarter decisions.
- Champion a self-service culture, enabling business users to independently explore and utilize data with intuitive dashboards, tools, and training.
- Deliver advanced analytics capabilities, including forecasting, customer segmentation, behavioral analysis, and predictive models that support strategic decisions.
- Act as a strategic thought partner to executives, proactively surfacing insights, challenging assumptions, and framing trade-offs using data.
- Drive adoption of best-in-class analytics tools and methodologies, ensuring the team is using modern, scalable approaches (e.g., statistical modeling, experimentation, data storytelling).
- Establish standards for data quality, documentation, and governance in partnership with Engineering and Compliance teams, without slowing down execution.
- Stay current with advancements in AI and data science, and proactively identify opportunities to apply emerging technologies to improve internal capabilities and business outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep technical expertise in analytics and data science, with advanced proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python), experience with visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx), and familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks) and modern AI/ML frameworks.
- Strong business acumen and demonstrated experience applying data strategy in a Financial Technology or high-growth environment.
- Track record of delivering data-driven strategies that align with business priorities and drive measurable impact across product, operations, or growth functions.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail and a bias toward action.
- Ability to extract and communicate insights from large, complex datasets, translating analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with experience influencing senior leadership and collaborating cross-functionally across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong project and time management abilities, with proven success managing multiple priorities in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
- Adaptability and learning mindset, with the ability to quickly adopt new tools and stay current with emerging data technologies, especially in AI and ML.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in a quantitative, technical, or mathematical discipline; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- 10+ years of experience transforming large, complex datasets into insights, dashboards, and advanced analytics to support strategic decision-making.
- Proven leadership experience managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams of analysts and data scientists.
- Deep expertise in data analysis and statistical methods, with strong fluency in SQL and experience using languages such as Python; familiarity with R or SAS is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with modern data and analytics platforms, including Power BI (or similar), Tableau, Alteryx, and cloud data environments such as Databricks.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles (dimensional and relational) and experience building scalable, self-service data environments.
- Familiarity with Lakehouse and Medallion architecture is highly desirable.
- Background in banking, fintech, or other regulated industries is a strong plus.
