About The Role

Techno is seeking a seasoned Construction Inspector with a strong background in heavy civil infrastructure to support a multi-billion-dollar transportation improvement program involving deep excavation and tunneling. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, safety-critical environments and enjoys working on projects with long-term regional impact. The successful candidate will serve as the eyes and ears on the ground—ensuring the work aligns with engineering standards, contract documents, and regulatory requirements, while upholding the highest safety standards.

What You'Ll Do

  • Conduct daily site inspections of excavation and shaft operations, ensuring work is executed per contract documents, project specifications, and approved engineering drawings.
  • Observe and document construction methods, means, and materials used—particularly those related to deep shafts, support-of-excavation systems, ground stabilization, and tunnel access structures.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical engineers, safety officers, and contractor field supervisors to maintain schedule alignment and work quality.
  • Ensure contractor and subcontractor activities comply with all applicable safety codes, including OSHA regulations and project-specific safety plans.
  • Identify non-conformance issues and assist in resolution through collaboration with the construction management team.
  • Oversee and schedule independent testing and inspections for soils, concrete, waterproofing, steel, and other materials as required.
  • Participate in field meetings and contribute to inspection reports, daily diaries, and photographic documentation.
  • Help manage interfaces with multiple contractors and stakeholders, including public agencies and utility providers.
  • Monitor environmental compliance related to excavation activities, dewatering operations, and materials handling.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of inspection experience on heavy civil infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on excavation, tunneling, shaft construction, or other below-grade work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods related to deep foundations, support of excavation (SOE), rock excavation/blasting, and concrete placement in confined or complex environments.
  • NICET Level III or higher certification in Construction or Transportation (or equivalent) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and regulatory compliance in high-risk construction environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple trades and managing field communication between contractors, engineers, and agency representatives.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills, including proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, e-Builder, or similar).
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
