Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates and provides pastoral and spiritual care and counseling for a designated area or for a clinical service.
• Plans and conducts religious services.
• May provide consultation on ethical issues.
• May provide individual and group counseling sessions and crisis intervention.
• May develop and facilitate various support groups.
• Participates in or chairs committees.
• Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating established programs, policies and procedures.
• Assesses and identifies areas for program development and assists in establishing new initiatives.
• Writes and publishes in professional journals.
• May teach or lecture by invitation.
• Prepares and conducts workshops and discussion groups on topics related to pastoral care.
• Hospital based positions may participate in patient treatment plans and multi-disciplinary rounds.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master's of divinity degree.
• Ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
• Two years of experience in ministry with demonstrated competence in pastoral care.
• Hospital based positions require previous health care experience in the appropriate pastoral care area (i.e. mental health, geriatrics, pediatrics) and may require certification by one or more certifying agencies.
• Hospital based positions also require four or more units of clinical pastoral education.
