Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates and provides pastoral and spiritual care and counseling for a designated area or for a clinical service.
- Plans and conducts religious services.
- May provide consultation on ethical issues.
- May provide individual and group counseling sessions and crisis intervention.
- May develop and facilitate various support groups.
- Participates in or chairs committees.
- Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating established programs, policies and procedures.
- Assesses and identifies areas for program development and assists in establishing new initiatives.
- Writes and publishes in professional journals.
- May teach or lecture by invitation.
- Prepares and conducts workshops and discussion groups on topics related to pastoral care.
- Hospital based positions may participate in patient treatment plans and multi-disciplinary rounds.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's of divinity degree.
- Ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
- Two years of experience in ministry with demonstrated competence in pastoral care.
- Hospital based positions require previous health care experience in the appropriate pastoral care area (i.e. mental health, geriatrics, pediatrics) and may require certification by one or more certifying agencies.
- Hospital based positions also require four or more units of clinical pastoral education.
