Description
General Description:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment within the center. This role supports infection control and promotes the overall well-being of children, staff, and visitors by performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
- Follow and complete the center’s daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule.
- Collect and dispose of garbage properly; disinfect trash cans and replace liners daily.
- Sanitize bathroom fixtures and surfaces using approved cleaning solutions.
- Wet mop all washable floors daily, including kitchen, bathroom, office, and classroom areas.
- Sweep and maintain entrance areas.
- Vacuum all carpeted areas daily.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, countertops, phones, keyboards, and faucets.
- Clean windows and walls (interior and exterior) as scheduled or needed.
- Shampoo or steam-clean carpets and rugs as scheduled or needed.
- Refill dispensers with paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, and hand soap.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies; order and receive supplies as needed.
- Follow safety procedures for chemical use and equipment operation.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and address safety hazards.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g., changing filters, unclogging toilets, replacing light bulbs).
- Assist with setup and cleanup for trainings and events.
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities:
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum, carpet cleaner).
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional demeanor and ability to represent the organization positively.
Certifications:
- Current First Aid and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training
- Minimum 15 hours in-service training completed annually
Environmental Conditions:
- Regular work in both office and childcare settings, including indoor & outdoor locations
- Tolerance for noise and high activity levels
Essential Physical Skills:
- Must have acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction) to safely operate cleaning equipment and identify potential hazards.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and reaching overhead.
- Ability to climb ladders and step stools to clean high surfaces and change light fixtures.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Occasional lifting of heavier items (up to 75 pounds) with assistance or equipment.
- Manual dexterity to operate cleaning tools and equipment such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, mops, and buffers.
- Ability to handle and mix cleaning chemicals safely and accurately.
- Exposure to cleaning agents, dust, bodily fluids, and other potentially hazardous materials.
- Work may be performed in varying temperatures and humidity levels, including outdoor areas.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces throughout the workday.
- Must be able to maintain a consistent pace and attention to detail during physically demanding tasks.
