A Little About Us
Yahoo's Membership Platforms team provides Identity, Payments, and Privacy capabilities to all the Yahoo verticals. As a result, verticals can leverage these advanced capabilities that they could not buy or build in a cost effective manner on their own. Within that remit, the team also provides User Data Platform (UDP) services to the rest of the organization.
Yahoo’s UDP team owns several mission-critical products and services:
UDB (User DataBase) is a world-wide distributed, high-performance, massively scalable, multi-master, eventually-consistent database holding user account information accessed via a RESTful interface and leveraging the next-generation Aerospike key-value store
CP (Canonical Profile) is a RESTful service layered on top of the UDB that maps raw key-value pairs to carefully-schematized, well-documented attributes
MP (Member Profile) is the next-generation offering, expanding CP’s storage and delivery of “declared” user data to the realm on “inferred” data for those same users
A Lot About You
We're looking for an impressive individual who is passionate about all aspects of product management, is highly organized, and communicates well with internal and external stakeholders. At Yahoo, PMs create a team culture that conceives, designs, and ships excellent products. You do this by modeling ownership and accountability, superb team leadership skills, humility, and curiosity. As a PM, you understand, inspire, and focus your team(s) using excellent listening skills, influence abilities, and crisp, effective communication. You complement these skills with technical knowledge that informs your judgment regarding timelines, scope, quality, priorities, and trade-offs. Ultimately, you are the expert on how products are designed, used, measured, improved, and generate business value. You support this expertise with a keen ability to break down large, complex problems into well-defined, manageable issues and an ability to use data to inform your judgment.
About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the vision, strategy, and execution for our User Data Platform (UDP). The UDP provides feature teams across the company with trusted, compliant, and real-time user data, enabling seamless user experiences, personalization, targeting, and measurement.
As Principal PM, you will be responsible for setting the long-term vision for our user data foundation, defining the roadmap, and driving adoption of the platform across the organization. You will partner closely with Engineering, Data, Privacy, Security, and Product leaders to ensure that the platform not only scales technically but also aligns with business goals, regulatory requirements, and user trust. This role requires someone who can operate strategically at the company level, while also being hands-on in execution, roadmap ownership, and day-to-day product delivery.
Responsibilities
Vision & Strategy: Define and evangelize the long-term strategy for the User Data Platform, ensuring it enables scalable, real-time, and privacy-forward user data capabilities across the company.
Roadmap Ownership: Own and prioritize the UDP roadmap with inputs from feature teams, engineering, privacy/legal, and business stakeholders. Balance near-term feature delivery with long-term architectural investments.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary product partner for PMs and Engineers from feature teams, ensuring their needs for identity, profile, and personalization data are met.
Platform Adoption: Drive adoption of the platform across the company by building compelling platform capabilities, creating clear documentation, and engaging with customer teams.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with engineering, data infrastructure, privacy/legal, and security teams to deliver solutions that meet both product needs and compliance requirements.
Technical & Market Expertise: Maintain a strong understanding of modern data stack architectures (event streaming, APIs, data lakes/warehouses, identity resolution, feature stores) and the competitive landscape in identity and personalization platforms.
Execution: Write clear product requirements, define success metrics, and oversee delivery of platform features from concept to rollout.
Evangelism: Influence executives and stakeholders across the company to align behind the UDP vision and strategy.
Qualifications
8+ years of product management experience, with at least 3+ years focused on data platforms, identity, personalization, or related infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to set platform-level strategy and successfully drive cross-organizational adoption.
Strong technical fluency: able to understand and discuss concepts such as event collection, data pipelines, APIs, data warehouses/lakes, feature stores, and real-time personalization.
Proven success working with engineering, data, privacy, and security partners to build compliant, scalable systems.
Experience in consumer internet or ad tech environments strongly preferred; adjacent industries with real-time user data challenges also welcome.
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of influencing executives and peers.
Hands-on mindset with the ability to move from strategy to detailed execution seamlessly.
Nice to Have
Experience leading identity or profile platforms at scale (e.g., cross-vertical or multi-brand businesses).
