The compensation team is a specialized area dedicated to internal compensation and classification consulting, job analysis, pay data collection and evaluation, pay structures, organizational structures, job classifications, market competitiveness and compliance. Compensation administers the university’s staff pay program and provides data-driven consulting services to make informed decisions regarding employee pay. Compensation works to ensure that standard and consistent practices foster a compensation culture that complies with all local, state, federal and applicable statutes and regulations and the university’s policies and procedures are applied.

 

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and administration of new and revised compensation programs.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes that are consistent with compensation trends and university objectives.
  • Manages salary survey participation and makes recommendations to ensure that compensation programs are competitive with the external market.
  • Monitors federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure compliance; maintains a thorough working knowledge of current and emerging trends, developments, and changes in legislation affecting compensation.
  • Ensures compensation programs are properly administered by reviewing and analyzing materials including but not limited to position descriptions for level and classification; checking for market relevance and internal equity; documenting validated information or recommendations for changes to individual positions.
  • Provides analysis for pay decisions and job evaluations; provides deliverables with an awareness of urgency around deadlines, understanding of impact on staff and departments, and exemplar customer service.
  • Supports compensation functions by preparing materials, analyzing data and interpreting results; maintains documentation for audit purposes; demonstrates expertise relative to compensation practices and programs and delivers services that meet and exceeds departmental needs.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of compensation procedures and policies, including developing offers, analyzing compensation trends, and addressing compensation related inquires.
  • Reviews and monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation resources and projects; develops and implements recommended revisions and improvements as necessary.
  • Manages special projects such as designing career architecture, job codes, salary structures, etc.; partners with departments to analyze needs; works with IT teams for system integrations.
  • Produces research-driven data on executive compensation; assists in the design and implementation of executive compensation and incentive program strategies to attract, reward, and retain executive talent.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with departmental stakeholders and centralized HR team members; ensures that inquiries and concerns are handled quickly, appropriately, and with a courteous resolution.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position has direct supervision over a Compensation Analyst; reports to the Executive Director of Workforce Compensation and Benefits Solutions.

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification in human resources or compensation is preferred.
  • At least four years of relevant professional experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in compensation, including relevant legal issues is necessary.
  • Demonstrable experience utilizing Microsoft Excel, including the creation of v-lookups and pivot tables is necessary.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation is necessary.
  • Experience with research and data mining is necessary.
  • Demonstrable communication skills, both verbally and in writing is necessary.
  • Relevant experience or coursework in Compensation, Human Resources and Benefits, or Business/Finance/Math is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community is strongly preferred.
