Description

The Director of Development is responsible for supervising the Development staff, overseeing donor cultivation, and managing/generating funds in support of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania and its various activities through strategic, coordinated fundraising campaigns – including but not limited to: annual giving, planned giving, special events, grants, corporate sponsorships, United Way donations, capital campaigns, written appeals, and other agency support. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional expertise and direction on all aspects of fund development.
  • Participate in the establishment of policies, procedures, plans, goals, and budget; manage the departmental budget to goals.
  • Oversee planned giving (including the Juliette Gordon Low Society) initiatives and operations.
  • Serve as primary staff liaison/support to the Fund Development Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Fund Development Committee chair to mobilize board and committee members in expanding GSHPA’s base of support. 
  • Develop a case for supporting GSHPA that aligns with immediate and long-term needs and opportunities that exist throughout the Council’s footprint and align with overall priorities.
  • Oversee timely receipt and acknowledgement of gifts, sponsorships, grants, and other donations utilizing the donor database system.
  • Actively seek new funding sources.
  • Plan, manage, and implement multi-faceted fundraising campaigns/events that align with council’s short and long-term goals and activities and strategically incorporate prospect research, donor cultivation, gift solicitation, and appropriate and timely stewardship.
  • Maintain and foster relationships with current and past donors to continue and increase their donations.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and staff to identify fundraising opportunities, match them with new/existing funders, and solicit/secure gifts in accordance with and with the utmost respect for the Donor’s Bill of Rights.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic alliance with volunteer base and girl members.
  • Encourage the exchange of fundraising opportunities and capitalize on volunteers’ local community knowledge/connections in a way that both positively promotes and proactively solicits community support for GSHPA.
  • Provide professional quality customer service to donors, volunteers, staff, and other community contacts. 
  • Effectively enforce established Council policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Council-wide initiatives and/or cross functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • CFRE preferred.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in fundraising with proven track record of raising $1 million+ annually using multiple fundraising. 
  • Three to five years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to close 5-figure gifts with individuals, corporations and organizations.
  • Grant-writing experience and fundamental understanding of the process to acquire grants required; government grant-writing experience preferred.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and virtual meeting platforms
  • Highly proficient with audiovisual equipment.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and/or other donor databases preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail required.
  • Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to prioritize a high volume of work while managing multiple deadlines in a continually changing work requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation and analysis.
  • Strong public relations skills and ability to develop community collaborations.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Creativity, vision, and ability to lead others.
  • Proven track record of accomplishing goals while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Experience in cultivating/maintaining relationships with donors required.
  • Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages in a professional manner.
  • Efficiently operate standard office equipment.
  • Pass and maintain required background clearances.
  • Work a flexible schedule, to include nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; access to reliable transportation required.
  • Travel throughout the council, as needed.
  • Lift/carry 25 pounds.
  • Sitting, standing or walking for a moderate period of time is required.
