Part Time Supervisor - Underground

As a part-time supervisor, you’ll play a key role in overseeing staff and in preparing and serving fresh, high-quality food in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in team settings and take pride in delivering excellent meals to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

As a Part-Time Supervisor at a KU Dining facility, you will oversee daily operations, ensuring a high standard of food service and guest satisfaction. You will manage a team of employees, uphold departmental policies, and maintain the facility’s brand appearance. This role involves supervising staff in various functions, from service and production to sanitation and cash handling. You will also open and close the facility and take on management responsibilities in the absence of the Manager.

Supervision Received:

• Direct supervision from the Management/Executive Sous Chef.

Supervision Given:

• Supervises Full-Time and Part-Time employees.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Collaboration:

   • Foster effective working relationships with Union departments and employees.
   • Actively resolve conflicts and promote a positive team environment.

2. Cost Management:

   • Assist in planning and executing business activities, including food production, staffing, customer service, sanitation, merchandising, and menu planning.
   • Help manage inventories, ensuring accurate record-keeping and cost control.

3. Customer Service:

   • Handle difficult or emotional customer situations with professionalism and empathy.
   • Collect and utilize customer feedback to enhance service and food quality.
   • Communicate guest comments, staff concerns, equipment issues, and maintenance needs to leadership.

4. Operational Excellence:

   • Ensure food is prepared, displayed, and served to the highest standards.
   • Maintain cleanliness and organization in food court, serving, dining, production, and storage areas.
   • Ensure all signage (e.g., posters, table tents, and menu signage) is current and accurate.

5. People Management:

   • Uphold company policies and maintain accurate records of employee performance and attendance.
   • Assign workstations, supervise daily operations, and provide training to staff.
   • Review employee work for adherence to standards and provide regular performance feedback.

6. Quality Assurance:

   • Adhere to KU Dining’s expectations for food preparation, presentation, and overall quality.
   • Ensure compliance with SERV Safe policies, including recipe adherence and proper cooking and holding temperatures.
   • Coordinate with leadership to address any quality issues and suggest improvements.

7. Additional Duties:

   • Enforce KU Dining policies with all associates.
   • Work in assigned areas based on staffing levels.
   • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

1. Knowledge:

   • Understanding of food production and service methods, equipment, and materials.
   • Knowledge of business applications related to purchasing, receiving, inventory control, and cash handling.
   • Familiarity with Kansas sanitation requirements and food safety standards.

2. Abilities:

   • Ability to obtain SERV Safe certification within six months of hire.
   • Strong skills in supervising, training, and evaluating staff to deliver efficient customer service.
   • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, for addressing employee and customer concerns.
   • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including opening and closing shifts.
   • Capability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 lbs., walking, stooping, and bending.
   • Ability to assume full operational responsibility in the absence of the Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous food service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Supervisory experience with the ability to effectively manage and motivate staff.
• Prior customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• SERV Safe certification.
