TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN INTERDISCIPLINARY ART

Williams College

Office

Williams College, Williamstown, MA

Full Time

Description

The Williams College Department of Art invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position in interdisciplinary art, beginning fall 2026, at the rank of assistant professor.

We seek a professionally active artist whose practice bridges multiple media and demonstrates a deep engagement with both technical skill and critical inquiry. Areas of expertise would ideally include two or more of the following: sculpture, performance, animation, and painting/drawing. We also welcome expanded and experimental approaches to these media. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work explores the intersections of art with larger social frameworks and other disciplines.

The new faculty member will be expected to teach introductory and intermediate studio courses in their areas of expertise, core offerings in the major, and advanced electives. The position will have a courseload of two classes per semester and require service to the department and the college. Williams College provides a private studio and professional development funds for tenure-track faculty.

We seek applicants who demonstrate a capacity to contribute to an innovative curriculum that resonates with students who have a wide range of artistic interests and liberal arts backgrounds. Candidates should be comfortable working and thinking across media and disciplines. This position will also support our growing joint Studio Art and Art History major, which attracts students eager to synthesize creative and intellectual work across disciplines.

Our area in the northern Berkshires is home to a number of world-class museums and arts institutions, including Mass MoCA and the Clark Art Institute and will be home to a new building for our Williams College Museum of Art. It is an exciting time to join our growing contemporary art community here.
