Description
The Senior Accountant role helps maintain the business unit accounting duties. A successful Accountant will meet all month end deadlines, the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and assist with office management responsibilities and accounting functions as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries.
- Monthly update to Mexico Merchandiser- US Controller.
- Perform inventory analysis and reconciliation.
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts and make sure any open issues are resolved in the following month.
- Complete month end reporting and analysis in a timely manner.
- Assist with year-end audit and tax requests.
- Assist with tracking capital expenditures.
- Assist with ERP Conversion project as needed across the organization.
- Prepare accurate ad-hoc reports as requested from management.
- Prepares monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Review and audit commodity valuations and freight adjustments provided by merchandising.
- Ensures compliance with risk management policy or reports audits of Mexico Merchandiser reported risk positions to limits.
- Responsible for the preparation of the financial documents related to the annual budget process.
- Assist with entering accounts payable and receivable vouchers as needed.
- Reports to management where forecasting is necessary with justification and process. improvement to ensure better forecasting in the future.
- Evaluates company exposure against established credit limits.
- Reviews with Mexico Merchandiser and Controller in establishing appropriate customer exposure limits.
- Prepares all reports for accounting firm (Deloitte) for Mexico compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Work with Mexico Merchandiser and US Controller to insure accounting/financial processes and internal controls are adequate to protect the company’s assets.
- Monitors status and balances on assigned customer accounts.
- Coordinate payments of rail and truck freight invoices.
- Transaction management - manage all levels of transactions in regards to applications to contracts and invoices. Reconcile vendor statements and ensure invoices are paid timely.
- Customer service – provide courteous, accurate, and timely customer service to customers and suppliers.
- Drive a culture of safety, accountability, opportunistic curiosity and contributes to creating an environment where people want to work.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required plus relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices.
- CPA preferred.
- High level of proficiency with Excel required.
- Commitment to strong customer service.
- English/Spanish spoken and written.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
Physical Demands:
· Frequent sitting, use of computer, communication via telephone
· Ability to navigate an office environment.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.
· Regular and predictable attendance in office or site location.
