Faculty Position: Neuropsychiatrist Specializing in Psychoneuroimmunology

Position Overview
The University of Louisville School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Neuropsychiatrist with expertise in Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) to join our Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences as for a part time (.50 FTE) one year term appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both clinical care and research, working within a multi-disciplinary team that integrates psychiatry, neurology, immunology, cardiology and environmental health sciences.
This position is designed for a physician-scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of neuroimmune interactions in psychiatric disorders, with a particular focus on the role of environmental exposures in triggering neuroinflammation and subsequent neuropsychiatric sequelae such as mood disturbances, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety disorders, and dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Research:
Provide specialized psychiatric consultation for research into neuroimmune-mediated psychiatric disorders.
Develop integrated research plans that consider the intersection of neuroinflammation, environmental exposures, and mental health.
Collaborate with neurology, immunology, cardiology and environmental medicine specialists in patient clinical research.
Research & Scholarship:
Lead and participate in research on the neuroimmune basis of psychiatric disorders.
Investigate the impact of environmental exposures on neuroinflammation and psychiatric outcomes, including studies on air pollution, heavy metals, and endocrine disruptors.
Maintain an active publication record in high-impact journals, with an emphasis on psychoneuroimmunology and environmental neuroscience.
Secure extramural funding from NIH, NSF, DoD, and private foundations to advance translational research in neuroinflammation and psychiatric disease.
Teaching & Mentorship:
Train medical students, residents, and fellows in neuroimmune psychiatry and research.
Provide mentorship for early-career researchers and clinicians with an interest in neuroinflammation and psychiatric disorders.
Contribute to curriculum development in integrative psychiatry and psychoneuroimmunology and environmental psychiatry.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Work within a multi-disciplinary research team including psychiatrists, neurologists, immunologists, cardiologists and environmental health scientists.
Engage in translational research efforts aimed at identifying biomarkers for neuroimmune disorders and developing targeted interventions.
Serve as a liaison between clinical and basic science departments to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications & Requirements
MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Psychiatry and/or Neurology.
Fellowship training or extensive experience in Psychoneuroimmunology, Neuropsychiatry, or a related field.
A strong publication record in psychoneuroimmunology, with a focus on environmental exposures, neuroinflammation, and psychiatric outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in both clinical and research settings.
Experience with clinical trials or translational research on neuroimmune interactions in psychiatric disorders is preferred.
History of successful grant funding is highly desirable.
Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Kentucky.
