Counterparty Credit Risk – Portfolio Risk Expert

ING seeks an experienced Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) Portfolio Risk Expert to take a senior role in the newly established CCR organization. Build on ING’s CCR capabilities to drive consolidation of risk management and oversight of the counterparty credit risk portfolio. Shape and drive strategies that safeguard the bank’s ability by managing complex counterparty credit risks across dynamic global markets.

The team

You will be part of a newly formed CCR Portfolio Risk Management organization that has been established to enhance portfolio risk management, controls and oversight. This senior role is responsible for designing and embedding a strategic, portfolio-level approach to CCR management that directly supports ING’s Financial Markets business strategy. The team and role play a pivotal part in enabling controlled growth and innovation by ensuring CCR risks are proactively managed and transparently communicated. Through strategic oversight, technical leadership and cross-functional influence, the team ensures that CCR portfolio risk management evolves in line with ING’s ambitions, regulatory expectations and market dynamics.

Roles and Responsibilities:

In this role you will play a key part in ING’s CCR risk strategy, taking on responsibilities that will help drive success and shape ING’s risk culture.

• Lead CCR portfolio risk management by setting strategic direction and ensuring alignment with the firm’s overall risk appetite and regulatory requirements.

• Oversee portfolio-level analysis of counterparty credit risk exposures, including concentration risk, wrong way risk, stress testing, scenario analysis and capital impact assessments.

• Drive regulatory interaction and timely responses to supervisory bodies with sustainable solutions embedded into ING’s counterparty credit risk framework.

• Develop and enhance methodologies and analysis for exposure developments, transaction approvals, limit setting and relevant portfolio deep dives.

• Partner closely with trading, treasury, finance and other internal stakeholders to balance business strategy with prudent risk management for CCR.

• Provide thought leadership on emerging risks, regulatory developments and industry best practises.

• Deliver the adoption of advanced analytics to enhance portfolio monitoring and risk management capabilities.

• Act as a senior escalation point during CCR events, ensuring swift and effective risk mitigation actions.

• Lead, mentor and develop a high performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

• University degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, Economics, Econometrics or a comparable field.

• >10 years’ experience in a counterparty risk leadership role within a banking institution.

• Proven experience in portfolio-level risk oversight, including RAS frameworks, stress testing and WWR.

• Strong familiarity with CCR exposure matrix and collateral risks

• Demonstrated experience in regulatory engagement and internal governance processes.

• Deep product knowledge across fixed income, equities and commodity markets.

• Excellent communication skills to confidently engage with cross-functional teams and provide an effective 2nd line challenge to the business.

• Experience working in a global financial institution with cross functional collaboration.
