Purpose of the Role
The Material Controller I plays an essential role in ensuring accurate and timely material planning and control to support project execution. This position is responsible for maintaining materials availability, aligning with engineering requirements, and supporting sustainable and cost-effective project delivery. Working under the guidance of the Material Manager or senior team members, the role contributes to efficient material handling processes that meet both customer expectations and Worley’s sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Review engineering drawings, blueprints, and product specifications to determine material requirements for ongoing projects.
Document detailed material needs, including codes, descriptions, and relevant supplier information, ensuring alignment with project and customer requirements.
Coordinate with engineering and procurement teams to validate material specifications and confirm availability based on current inventory levels.
Assist in maintaining and operating material control systems to ensure compliance with internal processes and customer-specific requirements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance material handling processes in alignment with sustainability and operational efficiency goals.
Prepare and maintain accurate records of material orders, deliveries, and adjustments, ensuring data integrity within established systems.
Collaborate with project teams to forecast material needs and avoid delays, shortages, or excess inventory.
Participate in regular progress reviews with supervisors to ensure adherence to quality and project timelines.
Qualifications / Skill Set
- University degree or equivalent experience in supply chain, materials management, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation and the ability to interpret technical specifications accurately.
- Previous experience in materials control, inventory management, or supply chain operations, preferably in the energy, chemicals, or resources sectors.
- Proficiency in using material management systems, processes, and tools to track and control inventory and orders.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, procurement, and project teams.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in documentation and reporting.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to follow defined procedures while adapting to project-specific requirements.
